For a uniquely Spanish feel, visit the local Pueblos Blancos (white villages) of La Viñuela, Alcaucin or Los Romanes nestled in the hills. Relax with a drink and some tapas in one of the many bars or treat yourself to a meal in one of the wonderful local restaurants. In addition, nearby Hotel La Viñuela offers superb dining rooms that can cater for banquets or celebrations you may plan. The towns of the region are strongly influenced by the moors with their steep and narrow streets, embellished with white houses and red roofs. Those colours, with a constant blue sky, are the characteristic colours of this region. Málaga international airport is only 50 minutes away. Granada city and the mountains of Sierra Nevada are only 1.5 hours away
The town of Vélez Málaga, (a 10 minute drive) the small capital of La Axarquía, entails the old and the new and has a lovely easy and relaxed atmosphere. The Mediterranean coast is 15 minutes away, where you can find Torre del Mar, the nearest coastal town with a large variety of shops, restaurants and entertainment areas, such as the biggest shopping centre in the area, El Ingenio. There is also a fantastic waterworld called Aqua Velis and a wonderful golf course in Torre del Mar.
Sailing, windsurfing, canoeing or fishing on Lake Viñuela, golfing, walking, horse riding and skiing are other pastimes to be enjoyed in the area. The ancient cities of Antequera, Sevilla, and Córdoba are close by, steeped in history and fascinating Moorish architecture. The coastal town of Nerja and its famous caves are within 25 minutes reach.
Other coastal towns, like Torrox, Benalmádena, Fuengirola or Marbella, have easy access by the dual carriage way, and you can reach them in 20–50 minutes.
