South Majorca Holiday rentals

Make a holiday rental house or villa in South Majorca your home away from home

Whilst much of Majorca (Mallorca) is loosing the battle to tourist development in the form of large concrete hotels and huge crowds of tourists stopping for just a few nights, South Majorca has managed to slip perfectly under the radar. Some may claim it has been kept for those in the know on purpose, as some of the most beautiful beaches and interesting mountains are found in South Majorca. If you are looking to take a villa in South Majorca to enjoy the fine natural and cultural riches of Majorca without the tourist crowds, then you are in luck; a villa in South Majorca would be perfect.

Things to do on holiday in South Majorca

No holiday to South Majorca would be complete without spending at least a few hours of the famous white sand beaches which have blessed the front covers of many travel brochures. Much of the land behind South Majorca’s beaches, including dunes, scrubland and woodland have been declared as natural parkland, preventing the rise of concrete development and protecting the beaches. This gives the beaches of South Majorca an unrivalled natural feel, and keeps the crowds elsewhere. The natural parks are magnificent places to go walking and birdwatching, due to the abundance of waterfowl and birds of prey.

The incredible landscape is ideal for other sports too. The area around Llucmajor especially has the best tracks and facilities for mountain biking and cycling, with trails leading through the mountains and along the cliffs of the coast. Along your way, you will come across a number of fascinating pre-historic discoveries, all of which have been excavated and carefully preserved. The finest example has to be Capocorb Vell, which is also the islands most famous archaeological site.

Boat trips leaving any of the ports can be found going to Goat Island (Isle de Cabrera), which has been declared a National Park, and thus has no development at all. The island has a colourful pirate history, and makes a great day out from a villa in South Majorca.

Places to holiday in South Majorca

Colonia de Sant Jordi (also confusingly known as Port de Campos in some guides), is the location for a villa in South Majorca if you really like to spend your holiday in peace. Very few people manage to stumble across Colonia de Sant Jordi unless they have inside information, so it is likely to remain a closely guarded secret haven of tranquillity on the island for many years to come.

Of all the beaches in South Majorca, Es Trenc and Sa Rapita are often cited as being the most beautiful, with Es Trenc among the finest on the whole of Majorca. With 4km of fine, white sand and wild dunes, there is plenty of space, and the national park which protects the back of the dunes has stopped development and crowding, leaving the beaches free for those who have made the little extra effort to leave the main tourist centres. The stunning town which serves holiday makers in Es Trenc/Sa Rapita, Campos, is a beautiful little town build on a hillside overlooking the coastline.

The impressive region of Llucmajor is the island’s most developed area for mountain biking, with South Majorca villas in Llucmajor and Cala Pi regularly taken by mountain bikers, as the protected natural harbour in Cala Pi is the perfect place to find refreshment after a long day in the saddle.
