Cala d'Or Area holiday villa

Villa Maria D'or is a lovely villa and the actual villa and the position of it exceeded our expectations from the photographs and website, I don't think their photographs really do it justice. It was very well cleaned. However the only thing that lets it down is that the villa really is quite poorly equipped. The twin bedroom's air conditioning was not working, we reported it on our first day but they were unable fix it during our visit. The dishwasher was not working properly (also reported and came to look at it but couldn't work out what the problem was) so we had to wash everything by hand. The cutlery, crockery and glassware are all of pretty low quality. Although there were sufficient plates and cereal bowls, there was not really sufficient cutlery and much of it had rust marks on it which is unacceptable. There were sufficient wine glasses (although of the cheap paris goblet style) but there was not a single large tumbler type glass or beer glass in the house, there were a few really tiny drinking glasses which were a silly size for a hot climate, only capable of holding about 3 sips of cold drink or water. There were insufficient larger bowls (2 only) in which to place salads and there was no tin opener (only one cheap one that had been broken before our arrival) so we couldn't open a couple of tins we had bought. The bath towels supplied by the villa are tiny and threadbare so of poor quality but the bedding linen was very good. The shower curtain in the main bedroom ensuite bathroom was very poor quality with the pole all bent. We were also surprised that unlike most villas we have rented in the past, there were no games or anything in the villa such as packs of cards or board games. Having said all that, the position of the villa makes up for the shortfalls, the pool is one of the nicest we have had at a villa. There are a few small shops and some restaurants within a 10 minute walk of the villa but you would need a car if you wanted to get out and about. The main town of Cala d'Or is about 10 minutes drive and the marina about 7 minutes drive. Although I have recommended for families with young children, it would depend on the age of the children, there would be certain downfalls as the pool is very open, not gated in any way so would have to be careful with very young children, the master bedroom is also on the floor below the other two bedrooms so you wouldn't be very close to the children.
