Majorca, or Mallorca, is the largest island in the Balearic Island group, and one of the most popular. Accomodation in Majorca, Spain

Pollensa (Pollenca) - Located in the north of Majorca, this peaceful old Roman town of Pollensa is still a largely unaffected by the Majorca tourism wave. Today the port has grown into a popular destination for holidaymakers. Some of Pollensa’s medieval centre remains around the Plaça Major, the main square, and a small chapel. Perched on a hill just south of Pollensa is a peaceful and serene 18th-century monastery. The breathtaking view from the top is worth the one hour walk from town.

Alcudia - Alcudia holidays is a good choice for travellers going to Majorca. The original old town of Alcudia is 2 miles inland from the coastal development that has surfaced as a tourist destination over the past four decades. The coastal development lies mostly at the western end of the magnificent Bay of Alcudia, in the east of Majorca. The waters of the Bay of Alcudia are warm and shallow, helping make Majorca holidays very popular with families.

Santa Ponsa – Santa Posa Beach is quite large, and this coastline has been growing with the addition of imported sand. The waters are fairly shallow and currents generally mild. Boat trips in Santa Posa out to swim in the sea are very popular and relatively cheap in this area. Santa Ponsa is slightly laidback compared to the other parts of Majorca although it has an abundance of bars, restaurants, live music venues, also catering for families with children.

Soller - The municipal district of Soller lies deep within the heart of the Sierra de Tramuntana mountain range. Soller is dominated by the highest mountain in Majorca, Puig Mayor. The village of Puerto de Soller is the only village along the rugged west coast of Majorca, and is flanked by a horseshoe bay enclosed by two headlands. Like Alcudia, the original old town of Soller is located inland and is best for walking and scenery.

Things to do in Majorca, Spain

Water sports in Majorca are a big hit due to their pristine beaches and sparkling waters. Pedal boating, sailing, scuba diving, water skiing and wind surfing are only a couple of the many water activities to engage in during a Majorca holidays.

For some cultural immersion in Majorca, head to the northwest coast to some secluded coves and several quaint old towns and villages. The interior of Majorca is still teeming with an agricultural community that prizes their windmills, olive and almond trees.

Activities like walking, hiking and biking in Majorca are also very popular. Take a route through the olive trees or climb up to the top of a lighthouse. Cycling routes are abundant around the island.

Weather in Majorca, Spain

The weather is fairly mild for a Majorca holidays, staying between 10 and 24 degrees Celsius throughout the year. For sun-lovers, there are at least 5 hours of sun every day. Holidays in Majorca are therefore warm and cosy. June, July and August is the best time to visit although early June or Sept to Oct is when the weather in Majorca is best. Fantastic weather and outdoor activities lead many to buy Majorca apartments and property.

Travel to and in Majorca, Spain

With airlines like Air Europa now flying frequently to Majorca, there is no excuse not to go. A flight to Majorca from the UK should not exceed 2.5 hours. Access via mainland is more expensive. Within the island, you can travel by car or hop onto the more traditional bicycle for a glimpse of the locals’ lifestyle. Cheap bicycle hire is plentiful and very popular with family holidaymakers.
