Things to do on holiday in West Menorca

The beaches are quite stunning, and as you head towards the western tip, the coastline becomes more rugged and jutted, with tiny cove beaches becoming more frequent. The resort towns along the coast are filled with sailing and windsurfing schools, diving centres and water sports organisations.
The interior of west Menorca is a walkers dream. There are deep gullies and wooded hills leading up into the mountains of central Menorca. There are some fantastic routes you can take into the hills, taking you past some of the most beautiful viewpoints and most interesting historical sites in the region.
There are also some charming little towns in the area, filled to bursting point with little boutiques, local restaurants and atmospheric pavement cafes. There is a strong culture in this part of the island due to the late onset of mass tourism, and visiting local bars and tavernas in the evenings is a wonderful way to get an idea of the local way of life.
Places to visit on holiday in West Menorca
Ciutadella is set in the most attractive scenery in West Menorca, partly due to its beautiful old palaces, cobbled roads and charming little port. The former commercial centre for the entire island, Ciutadella is a great place to shop and dive into the culture of the Balearic Islands.
The beach resort of Cala Galdana is nestled on a perfect crescent shaped bay, surrounded by pine forest and shear cliffs. Regularly cited as the most beautiful beach resort in Menorca, Cala Galdana’s main attraction has to be the amazing sandy beach on which it stands. There are plenty of water sports facilities in the resort too.
Cala’n Bosch is one of the more modern resorts in West Menorca, with plenty of modern villas and apartments for rent. The harbour is the main focus for the town, not only due to the excellent boat trips and sailing excursions which emanate from there, but also due to the number of eateries and market stalls which surround it.
Weather in West Menorca
The Mediterranean climate of West Menorca means that you can bask in the long hours of summer sun from May until October, as temperatures average well over 20?C for the whole period. In July and August, temperatures soar, averaging closer to 30?C. Even during the grips of winter, it is rare to experience temperatures of less than 10?C.
