This beautifully furnished ground floor apartment enjoys a superb location within La Gardenia. One patio overlooks the large communal swimming pool, set in beautifully maintained gardens, whilst the view from the end of the other patio looks out over Mahon harbour entrance; there is ample room to spill out into the garden for al fresco dining. Fishing boats and cruise liners pass the end of the garden. The apartment comfortably sleeps 6 (1 double and 2 twin bedrooms) and has 1bath/shower room and 1 shower room, both with WC. The kitchen is very well equipped, and the comfortable lounge, with satellite TV, DVD and CD players, also has a dining area to comfortably seat 6 people,. The swimming pool is superbly maintained and ideal for family fun. Sol del Este is a small, quiet residential area with a supermarket and an excellent bar/restaurant. Three minutes walk from the apartment is a small cove, ideal for swimming. A ladder also leads directly down into the water of the cove/harbour.

Our apartment (No.38) is located in La Gardenia, in the small residential area of Sol del Este, 10 minutes walk from the bustling town of Es Castell, which also boasts the charming fishing port of Calas Fonts, with its waterfront restaurants, shops, and boat trips. The beautiful and historic capital of Mahon is 10 minutes away by road. The island has an excellent bus service and taxis are very reasonable. Impressive Mahon is a busy, authentically Spanish, city with a superb array of tasteful waterfront restaurants; boat trips and ferries leave from the harbour. This south east corner of Menorca is away from the main package tour destinations on the island, yet offers a range of activities, including watersports, horse riding and sites of archaeological interest. Menorca has a wealth of interesting places to visit, and all are easily reachable by road - the island is only around 30 miles across. Mahon airport is an easy 10 minute drive away, yet aircraft noise is not at all intrusive.

  • Please note that for parties of more than 4 people, each additional person will be charged £10 per person per week, to cover additional service costs. Initial deposit of 25% of total cost of booking, to be paid at time of booking. Payment by cheque from UK bank accounts please. For non-UK bookings, the method payment will be by agreement with the owner. Balance will be payable 8 weeks before booking commences. Long term rental rates subject to negotiation with the owner.   • Please note that changeover day is FRIDAY, and that entry to the apartment is available after 4pm on the day of arrival; guests are asked to vacate by 10am on the day of departure.

Notes: The apartment sleeps 6 adults/children. Both bright and modern shower rooms include a WC. In early 2007, the apartment was redecorated throughout, and completely refurnished , both to a high standard. The lovely lounge area has a fireplace, satellite TV, DVD and CD player, and a dining area for 6. There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms and lounge. There is a tiled communal outdoor shower beside the swimming pool. Our apartment enjoys an excellent location within La Gardenia, with patios front and back. The front patio looks onto the communal swimming pool. The end of the large patio to the rear looks out over the entrance to Mahon harbour, to the fortifications on the opposite shore, which are beautifully lit at night. The rear patio is accessed via French doors from the master bedroom, and is ideal for outdoor dining. Loungers are available for use in the grounds. A welcome pack is provided. We regret that we cannot accept bookings from non-family groups of 25 years of age or under.

Local points of interest : Close proximity to Mahon, Menorca's capital, means that the activities and attractions associated with a small city are within easy reach. These include local fish, and fruit and vegetable, markets, as well as a regular flea market in town. Boat trips around the large bay, including excellent glass bottomed boats, leave the Calas Fonts and Mahon waterfronts. Cruise ships and ferries also leave from Mahon, which has a beautiful marina, with some spectacular yachts and power boats moored - well serviced by the array of bars and restaurants, from the simple to the sophisticated, along the marina. Eating and drinking al fresco is a delight, and children are made very welcome. Other attractions include visits to the Xoeriger gin distillery, some interesting shops, and strolls around Mahon's historic back streets. Nearby S'Algar (15 minutes by road from Es Castell) is an excellent and well established watersports centre, catering for scuba diving, snorkeling, paragliding and water skiing.

Natural attractions : The south eastern corner of the island boasts particularly tranquil and beautiful scenery, from the low cliffs near Binbibeca, to the nature reserve of Es Grau slightly further north. From the latter, a kayak ride can take you to the uninhabited island of Isla d'en Colom, with its two lovely, quiet beaches, where adults can soak up the sun, whilst the children play safely in the shallow water. The island can also be reached by hiring a power boat from Mahon waterfront. Walks in the nature reserve and, slightly further north again, donkey rides through the wooded countryside, are other pleasurable ways to while away a few hours, in which all the family can take part. Moving further afield (though nowhere is particularly far from anywhere on Menorca!) the island offers innumerable bays and coves, with sandy beaches stretching down to the blue Mediterranean. The larger ones have beach bars and small restaurants, whilst others offer no facility other than peace and quiet.

Prehistoric Menorca: The island is a centre of great archaeological significance, and boasts a surprising number of megalithic archaeological sites, often showing outstanding levels of preservation and having a timeless and tranquil ambiance. Whether mysterious T-shaped Taulas, talaiots (towers) or navetas (boat-shaped burial chambers) or combination of all three, these sites offer a fascinating hint as to island life thousands of years ago. They range from the well reconstructed and regulated, with organised trips to some, to the isolated structure in a farmer's field in the middle of nowhere, for the more adventurous explorer. Children seem to be as fascinated as adults by these unique sites, most of which are now well sign-posted and quite easy to reach. Cave dwellings are also present in the north west, and on the south coast, of the island, which can be explored, often in combination with a visit to another of Menorca's towns or resorts, which are well worth leaving the beautiful south east to visit.

La Gardenia 2007, 2008, 2009

The accommodation was as described and everything you would need for a self catering holiday. The gardens and pool are beautifully kept.

The location is perfect with a fantastic view over Mahon harbour and easy walking distance into Cala Fonts with its good selection of restaurants/bars where you can watch the world go by on foot and on boats.

Three times here is a good recommendation and we will probably be back again soon.

La Gardenia 2011

We have just returned from our holiday, after 2 wonderful weeks in this apartment.The apartment was very clean and had everything you would need in it.The patio out the back realy is a lovely sun trap we use to eat out there in the evenings,and made full use of the patio in the front when the children were in the pool. We loved relaxing in the gardens watching the boats.There are some very nice resturants in Cales fonts which is just a short walk away, we were lucky enough to be there for the fiesta. We would to come back to this apartment next year.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities, Romantic Getaway

Lovely apartment!

We have just come back from a 2 week stay at this apartment in La Gardenia and had a lovely holiday with fantastic weather.
The apartment has all you would ever need on holiday and a big plus point for us was a comfortable bed!
The property managers were at the complex regularly and it was nice to know if we had any queries that they would soon be dealt with. the owners were also extremely helpful and the booking process was very easy and simple.
I particularly appreciated the supply of basic groceries on arrival as it meant we could just relax on arrival and shop later.
It was great to be on the ground floor for ease of access around the complex and the pool is literally on the doorstop without feeling it is in your way.
Most rooms had a ceiling fan which was a must as it was very hot whilst we were there and the shutters meant we could have the windows and patio doors open for air flow but still felt safe and secure.
My only bit of advice would be that the view of the harbour from the rear patio is very limited and if you were planning on sitting out to watch the boats you would need to move your chairs etc further round the garden. But on the plus side the rear patio is a fantastic sun trap and great for drying clothes super fast!
On the whole I would definitely recommend this apartment and would certainly consider coming back here.

Good to hear that you made full use of the rear patio, which is one of the largest ones attached to any of the ground floor apartments in La Gardenia, and that the weather confirmed its reputation as a premier sun trap! We feel that the front of the apartment forms a secure, almost fully enclosed, area by the pool, which has the advantage of easy supervision of children, The rear patio allows sheltered al fresco dining, and also easy access to the very large rear lawn, with its view of the world's second largest natural harbour, stretching from Mahon city to La Molla on the opposite headland. Lovely La Gardenia!

We have had a fantastic week staying at La Gardenia - the stylish apartment was superb. It is well appointed and has everything you could wish for. I especially appreciated the mesh covers to put over your dishes of food as you were laying the table for lunch!

The large dining table on the rear patio was great and we had many al fresco meals which we are missing now we are back in the rainy UK!

It was particularly relaxing to be on the ground floor, being able to wander in and out the french windows at the front and rear of the property.

The owner was very helpful and was able to answer our many questions before our trip. The gardens are beautiful and we found lots of lovely restaurants at Calas Fonts. We are just trying to work out when we can go back next year, I can’t wait!

Excellent location with good access to other parts of the island.Apartment well furnished and maintained. Dual views from the apartment means you can dine in private at the rear of the property with a seaview or enjoy sunbathing by the pool. We have visted La Gardenia twice now and would not hesitate to recommend the apartment-in fact we are going to book for next year!
