Murcia: The city of Murcia is described as one of the most beautiful and historic in the country. It is full of lively bars and restaurants with many good value places to go for an evening meal out. Well worth a visit daytime or night!
The city stands on the banks if the river and enjoys all year round sunshine. It has the highest temperatures in the region. There is a great deal of Moorish influence in the city, not least of all the impressive city walls. As you wander through the city, there is a monumental building on every corner.
Mar Menor & La Manga: Mar Menor (Little Sea) is a unique area located on the east coast of Spain, within the region of Murcia, just above the city of Cartagena. Few regions have the good fortune to have both a salt-water lake and a Mediterranean shore. The region of Murcia has both and the salt water lake with an area of 170sq km is known as Mar Menor, the largest salt water lake in Europe.
The area offers several more golf courses, municipal parks and the famous resort of La Manga. La Manga has more than 40km of beaches and the unique possibility of choosing between two seas with very different water temperatures, one with waves and one practically calm all year long.
With so much water here there is no wonder that the area is a haven for water sports. The possibilities here are endless from sailing to diving, windsurfing and jet skiing.
Shopping near the Casa Helidon: Fresh meat from the local farm is available at the garage (just outside the entrance) and at the 2 ventas 10 mins
walk away under tunnel to other side of road. (San Antonio and Airemar). The local garage also has bread milk beer wine and small selection of groceries. Ventas have local tomatoes and fruit also bread.
If one asks at 'Billi's Bar'- which is on site in new commercial centre 2mins walk from our villa- either Rolfe or Billi (german) speak good English and will always help.
Golf:
There are also many other golf courses within easy drive.
Mosa Trajectum consists of one 18 hole golf course, There are two smaller courses, The Stone and Pine Courses. The championship course runs through the resort, through a spectacular and challenging landscape with a variety of plants and trees, cacti, open rock faces and a multitude of water features. It was designed by Brian Connelly and Peter Hoogcarspel, it is a high quality course built following the highest course specification for both USGA and PGA standards and includes stunning views of the mountainous surrounds the resort and its stunning views of the area. Par 72 (any combination of 18 holes). Golf Academy also on site. Handicap required on all courses. The house is a 5 minute walk from the pro-shop, the driving range and the 1st tee of all courses.
