There is ferry service operating across the Mar Menor from Santiago de la Ribera to Puerto Thomas Maestre on the La Manga Strip. It is appx two hourly through the winter and takes 20 minutes. Mar Menor: The Mar Menor (‘Little Sea’), found in the south-east of the region of Murcia on the Costa Calida, is Europe’s largest salt water pool - a shallow lagoon of some 170 square km. The area is a haven for all types of water sports, including sailing, windsurfing, jet skiing and diving. The average annual daytime temperature here is 24 C and the winters are very mild with little rain. With over 3000 hours of sunshine a year and such a mild climate, the water temperature can reach 30 C in summer. The area also boasts many excellent golf courses, including Campo de Golf Villamartin, Real Club de Golf Campoamor and the famous La Manga Club.
