Tasteful, fully equipped apartment, in small traditional white-washed Moorish mountain village dramatically sited on the flank of the highest part of the Sierra Nevada. Spacious, decorated with well crafted woodwork and quality furnishings, this village apartment combines the very best of old Moorish traditions with the comfort and amenities of the new. Cosy and warm with central heating and an open fireplace, it is ideal for mountain walks and then curling up with a good book in front of the fire. The terrace with stunning views over the mountains and gorges is great for taking a leisurely breakfast on warm sunny mornings.

Nearest Airport: Granada at 80 Kilometres
Nearest Train: Granada at 50 Kilometres
Nearest Motorway: past Lanjaron at 30 Kilometres
Nearest Beach: beach at 50.0 Kilometres
Car: recommended
Traditional, white-washed Berber-style mountain village, with a backdrop of the highest peak in Spain, 'Mulhacen' and surrounded by woodlands of chestnut, poplar and pine. Three small villages make up the surrounding area, each a few kilometres apart which makes for easy day-walks, browsing round the high-quality handicraft shops, stopping for some local tapas, visiting the local silk industry museums from which the villages grew, or simply drinking in the view in the plaza. For the more adventurous there are many marked walks ranging from easy to challenging, including starting points for climbing 'Mulhacen'. Granada is approx 1 hour,15 mins drive to visit the famous Alhambra Palace. Motril on the coast is reached in approx 1 hour if you wish to visit the beach for the day. N.B. 90 mins. to ski resorts so not very practical other than for a day ski trip.

Notes: Up a short flight of steps, one enters directly into the open-plan living room / kitchen / dining area. Chestnut-beamed with an open fireplace (there is also electric heating throughout ) sizeable kitchen and eating area and doors that open onto a terrace with stunning views across ancient rooftops and steep mountain ravines, Casa Carolina 1 is equally ideal to curl up with a good book in front of the fire if the village turns snowy-white, or take a leisurely breakfast in the sunshine looking across to the Mediterranean sea in the far distance and even Morroco on a clear day. A short corridor leads to the bathroom and 2 bedrooms. The master bedroom is huge with a sitting area to read and relax and double balcony doors opening onto a small balcony that enjoys the same views and fills the room with sunshine. The twin-room is cosy with beautiful wood-crafted wardrobes, tasteful wall hangings from around the world and a small balcony.

Amenities/ Excursions: The apartment is ideally situated for excursions into Granada for the day: 1 hour,15 mins drive, or to the coast, approx. one hour. One bus a day also connects the village with Granada or the coast. Two small supermarkets are one minutes walk and there are a selection of small cafes, bars and a restaurant all within close walking distance. The two small villages that share the gorge are approx two kilometres away. Activities such as paragliding, horse riding and mountain biking can all be started from the village. Sierra Nevada ski resorts are at least 90 mins. drive away, so whilst skiing is possible it would not be very practical for more than a day trip.

We spent a week in Studio Mulhacen, our fourth time in the region, but first in this studio and the best. The apartment was well equipped, spacious, comfortable, as described in the details, fantastic views from the very large balcony ,local information in the studio and very central.
We came to walk ,as always and did so every day bar one, finding a few new walks. This region is perfect for walking in this valley and the surrounding ones. You rarely see anyone while walking apart from goatherds and shepherds.Amazingly unspoilt-hope it remains that way.
We ate in the Creperie wonderful food and beautiful views. Doesn't open every day though. Also La Estera (I think ) on the main road. Good authentic Spanish food.
Great area for practising Spanish as not a lot of English is spoken.
We would recommend accommodation and area if you want a holiday in a truly Spanish place.
Hope to return one day.

Idyllic apartment, great stay

We stayed one night at this apartment and found it idyllic. The apartment was well maintained, clean and centrally located in the village. The village of Bubion is very Spanish and makes a refreshing change from the coastal areas. We found a nice local restaurant.

We are not walkers, but if you are then I figure this would be a great place to base yourself as the scenery is beautiful.

Construction noise in the near surroundings

The vacation apartment on itself is ok. My wife and I have rented the apartment from 5 May until 14th of May 2008, but we left on the 7th of May 2008 because of the loud noises from the construction works in the neigbourhood and
couldn' t find any rest there.
Owner's Response: In response to the above review, building work took place during that week in May, 2008, in the building next door. I did not know it was going to take place and so repaid the clients three quarters of what they paid when they wished to leave. Work and noise was finished a few days later.
