Casa Rif is a large village house at the front of Canar, offering 3 self-contained, well-equipped apartments. All have south-facing balconies. There is a very large roof terrace with a heated jacuzzi/spa, BBQ, quality dining furniture and shower. Casa Rif can be rented as a whole, or each apartment individually. Canar is uniquely situated in the High Alpujarra - nearest village to Orgiva with all its amenities only 10 mins' drive away, yet also, at an altitude of 1150m , the house boasts open views that are truly unrivalled in the region to which no words/pictures could ever do justice. On a clear day, the Rif Mountains of Morocco can be seen. Canar is totally unspoiled, with the famous GR7 walking route passing through the village, making it accessible to constantly changing scenery. Whether you're interested in walking, cycling, bird watching, riding, exploring further afield, or just relaxing in a totally tranquil environment, you can do as much or as little as you want.

Further afield:: Golf - nearest golf course is at Salobrena (40 mins). Skiing - the World Championship resort of Pradollano in the Sierra Nevada is 1hr 15 mins away. Paragliding, windsurfing and diving are all available at nearby Salobrena and Almunecar.

A great holiday

What a wonderful week! This holiday has been a very different and special one, due to the lovely people from Cáñar, the spectacular views, the beautiful location... We have been very impressed with the comfortable, clean, spacious and charming accommodation, finding we had everything we could have wanted for. And what could be more perfect than to spend wonderful family evenings sitting on the roof-terrace under the most starlit sky we have ever seen? A big thanks, and we will certainly be back.

Jacuzzitastic!!

My family and I stayed in La Estrella for a week over the Easter period. On arrival Robin greeted us warmly and showed us around Canar helping us with information on the area, even leaving us print outs and books in the apartment. The apartment itself is lovely, beautifully decorated and the views are stunning. Waking up to such a breathtaking view was a real treat. The bedrooms are all tasteful, comfortable and spotless and the kitchen well equipped with everything we needed for a stress-free stay. Canar is a pretty little town, the lady in the local shop is lovely and she sells everything you might need if you dont wish to venture too far a field. There are some great walks to be had in the area for both professional walkers and those less inclined! A walk to a nearby waterfall was beautiful. There are a few small towns easily reached by car (or on foot if you are willing to walk a bit further) where you can pick up crafts and local produce. Our favourite was Pampaneira with its colourful rugs and gift shops. Last but not least the Jacuzzi! Sitting in it with a glass of wine looking out to the mountains was wonderful! We wish Robin all the best and hope to stay in his lovely apartment again at some point in the future.

New Year week 2008/09

Five of us (2 adults, 2 teens and a 10 yr old) spent a great week here, having spent the previous week along the road in Mecina. Great house, especially the roof terrace and tub (with lovely robes and extra towels provided). Views are stunning. Also beds very comfortable! It was fairly cold, but heaters and the sitting room fire were fine and we were warm enough. Very clean, tidy and well-equipped.

Robin was very helpful and kind and showed us round the village, brought extra supplies of wood when needed and gave good advice on restaurants and walks. It was nice not to have to totally fend for ourselves with our limited Spanish.

The village is lovely - we had excellent soup in Bar Piquos and the village shop is open EVERY day. We went to the main square with everyone for grapes and cava at midnight on 31st while the teens stayed in the tub.

Excellent walking books and other guide books at the house for visitors to use. The walking in the whole area is fantastic - strongly recommended.

Also an easy trip to the Alhambra and Granada, but you must book the Alhambra trip in advance.

Casa Rif - 3 Lovely Apartments in the Alpujarras

We had stayed in Canar a few times before our three weeks in August 2008. We viewed Casa Rif during February 2008. Robin had looked after us before, so we knew he was totally reliable and the property would be spotless, well furnished and fully equipped. We texted Robin as we drove up the hairpins and he was there to welcome us.

We can assure you that all Robin’s apartments in which we have stayed have exceeded our expectations. It is difficult to think of anything we needed that we could not find in one of the drawers or cupboards. The bed linen and towels provided were crispy clean and properly laundered. Robin also supplied some helpful Local Notes as well as his customary bottle of wine.

This time we decided to holiday with some of our family. We booked La Estrella, El Sueno and El Nogal, so we had the whole of Casa Rif to ourselves. Two daughters, their husbands and six children (2 aged 10, one 14, one 16 and 2 aged 17) and us two – twelve in all. This meant we had two spare beds so we invited friends, as Casa Rif can easily accommodate fourteen.

The whole family love walking through the hills and gorges. We think there is something in the Alpujarras for all ages. If you swim, buy a day ticket at Camping Orgiva by the bridge – the pool and changing rooms are very clean and well maintained. The beach and water park at Almunecar is only one hour’s drive. We went by autobus from Orgiva to Granada to save driving and parking the car.

Of course, if all you want to do is stay in Canar then the bars, shop and the hot tub in La Estrella will probably be quite enough.

Thank you, Robin, for all your efforts which were much appreciated. We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and will return again soon.
