Idyllic rustic charm and total relaxation.

What an amazing house!!!!

We loved every moment of our holiday, and really didn't want to come back to the UK.

Finally got to grips with the layout, which is fun and quirky, and the master bedroom is just charming. Didn't realise we had to venture over a small ford to park in front of the property, so would suggest you consider this when hiring a car - then again saying that, we had a Corsa and managed OK.

Casa Rosada is so seculded, peaceful and beautiful, we really didn't want to leave. As we were at the house for 2 weeks we had a night away in Granada, and as amazing as it was, we just wanted to get back to the tranquility we'd so quickly become accustomed to.

It's a real home from home, and Carmen was so helpful, even when we arrived quite late on the Saturday night due to delays whilst travelling.

We are definitely going to book another week next year, as we've truly never been this relaxed after a holiday.

The region of The Alpujarras is beautiful and unspoilt. Listen out for the goats who come down to graze, just one of the magical memories we have from our time in Orgiva. Venture up to the Sierra Nevada and it's sleepy white washed villages, and make sure you sample the local jamon, a real treat.

Casa Rosada has everything you need, and the pool was such a welcome addition in the afternoon sun. We were lucky to have a full two weeks excellent weather, but with plenty of natural shade in the garden, we made the most of our long leisurely lunches.

Booking the property was so easy too, with excellent communication from the owner.
Owner's Response: Actually, usually there is no water in the ford after the end of March or April and until mid November. This year, we have been blessed with a lot of snow, so there was some water from the melting snow, most unusual in June. But lovely to see the snowy peaks until mid summer, while swinning in the pool...

Best spanish holiday I ever had!

Review Submitted: October 13, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Thank you for the most beautiful Spanish holiday I've ever had! Casa Rosada was the prettiest little villa I've ever been to. My boyfriend and friends all agreed we'd really lucked out!

We couldn't believe our eyes when we saw our own little pink house with the lush garden and swimming pool. We had quite a few midnight swims and used it to get fit in the morning too! We used the barbecue quite a lot to cook our own meals - so much cheapier and healthier eating in Spain than in London. And the master bedroom was a total dream - never seen anything like it.

We found loads to do from hiking through all the mountain villages (traces of snow on the mountain tops? Wow) to hanging out in the nice cafes, restaurants and bars in the village. Our hire car meant we could check out the old moorish architecture in Granada too, something my boyfriend has been meaning to do for some time, and somehow we even managed to find time to go down to the local beach.

The locals were all really friendly and we liked how any english people we met in the cafes had all seemed to be living in Spain for some time, building their own farms with the help of the locals or working as english teachers in spanish schools - and even as massage therapists! Everyone was so lovely and it was a far cry from the nightmare of Benidorm.

We're looking forward to coming back. Apparently the port that gets a ferry to Morocco is only about half an hours drive away. Okay, so we've already checked the mountains and the beach - next time we're going to stay a few more days and make it all the way to Morocco!

Thanks again for a lovely time and please thank Carmen the spanish housekeeper for us for being so helpful when we were asking for things to do in the area.

There's no chance of me recommending this place to my friends I'm afraid - Casa Rosada's way too nice for them. I don't want anyone else to know about it!!

Quirky & Unusual

Brian & Jenny Hampshire
Review Submitted: October 7, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
Orgiva is a beautiful town with fantastic views of the hills and mountains. The drive (½ km) up to the property through a narrow winding single dirt track from Orgiva is an interesting experience. A dusty journey for walkers and pushing a buggy may prove difficult as the track is very poor with loose stones. It was very dark at night (I did not notice any lighting but I would not walk it at night either) and really more suited to the sure footed. The ‘ford’ was flowing on a couple of occasions but only an inch or two deep max, so to drive through was no problem at all although a little steep both on the way in and out but access might be tricky for sports or low vehicles.
The lounge, dining room and garden furniture all appeared very tired and worn and in need of replacement. With limited hanging space and no drawers at all in the master bedroom we did not unpack but lived from our cases for our 2 weeks. Although the 2nd bedroom did have a wardrobe and a very small bedside cabinet with 3 very shallow drawers it was just not practical to use the wardrobe in one room a sleep in another.
The concrete steps, some quite high, (including those in the adjoining narrow area between the master bedroom and the property) are not child friendly at all or for anyone unsteady on their feet, particularly in the dark or when using the bathrooms at night.
The garden and pool area are indeed very pretty but spoilt due to overgrown trees which limit the amount of sunshine to the pool, making it uncomfortably cold and reduce the available light to the property, making it appear somewhat gloomy when entering. If it is a villa with light airy rooms you seek then this property is not for you.
We only used the pool and BBQ once and the lack of parking space in Orgiva caused us to drive through it mostly heading for either the mountains or the beach in both cases soaking up the summer sunshine until well into the evening.
Overall we were a little dissapointed with the property but Orgiva the mountains and the beautiful resort of Almunecar I would thoroughly recommend to all.

The Perfect Place to Unwind

RJAC Glasgow, Scotland
Review Submitted: September 5, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
Casa Rosada is the ideal spot for a perfectly relaxing holiday; the house and gardens exceeded even the high expectations we had. The descriptions given by the owner are wholly accurate; the house is full of character, with an organic feel and yet it is comfortable and very practical.

Best of all however is the beautiful - and completely private - garden. This is ideal for lazy days reading and enjoying the pool, as well as for outdoor dining. The ambience of the place is really great and marks Casa Rosada out from other properties I've hired over the years.

The location of the house is also one of its strengths. It is ideally situated in a quiet spot, but it is in fact less than 1km from Orgiva which is an atmospheric place with a laid back vibe and some good places for a coffee, a drink or even a meal. Contrary to what some reviewers have indicated the road to the house is absolutely fine; it is well made and practically flat. (I for one don't go to an area like the Alpujarra to live next to a motorway!)

In fact the ease of access means that the city of Granada is only 45 minutes away. It is really a great city to visit. There is good walking in the Poqueira valley - as well as more locally - and most of the villages of the Alpujarras are within 20 minutes or so drive. The whole area is stunning and worth exploring but if you check into Casa Rosada you might well find that it curtails your desire to do so since the house and garden, and Orgiva itself, are such pleasant places to while away the holiday and unwind.

The house and garden are well looked after and it is clear that a lot of thought has gone into getting things right. The owner also has a local representative who speaks very good English and who meets guests in town to hand over the keys and show them round the house. She is very helpful and clearly looks after the house and garden well and is happy to be contacted should any problems arise - not that they did!

I would certainly commend a stay in this house to anyone who appreciates an unspoilt, scenic environment and wants to wind down and enjoy a couple of weeks of living their sunny rural dream.

Magical seclusion

JennieW London, UK
Review Submitted: August 10, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
I’m almost reluctant to review Casa Rosada in case it becomes too popular. We have been back home for just two days and are missing it dreadfully. The cottage, the garden and pool, the stunning Alpujjaras and even new-agey Orgiva provided us with the most relaxing holiday we have ever had en famille.

This is not a holiday rental for those who want modern, sharp lines and tarmaced roads. It is an old and quirky home that holds many clues to the fascinating Moorish history of the region.

Approaching Casa Rosada by driving down a dirt track and through a dry riverbed had us wishing that we had hired a small jeep. Our forays into the beautiful white villages, the higher Sierra Nevada and in search of Chris Stewart’s El Valero (tip: read his Driving Over Lemons before you go in order to get a real feel for the area) confirmed that we should have chosen a car more robust than a family saloon.

The cottage is just as described – completely private. Entering through the magnificent wooden gates is as though stepping into a secret garden. Children will love the adventure. No matter how searing the heat beyond the wall, there was always cool shade to be found within.

The large pool was a delight. Our 6 year old spent much of her time in it. Swimming observed only by the odd gecko as the sun rose or set behind the mountains that frame the garden was an incredible experience.

Londoners such as us have never seen star-filled skies quite like those we gazed at from Casa Rosada.

The pool is deep so novice swimmers need watching. But as it is possible to place a sunlounger in the shade at the edge of the pool, keeping an eye on the children is no hardship.

We didn’t eat out much. Instead we made as much use as possible of the stone barbeque. We were in any case often reluctant to leave the cottage even to sightsee, it was so idyllic. We did however go a few times to the pizza restaurant recommended by Casa Rosada’s owner. It’s child friendly with a climbing frame in the large outdoor eating area. The pizzas are stone baked and the paellas very good.

Casa Rosada may not be suitable for toddlers as there are stone steps into some of the rooms, including a steep one down into the corridor that links the small bedroom to the magnificent master bedroom. But properly supervised young children will be fine.

We will return to Casa Rosada as soon as we can. Unless we succumb to our desire to buy our own magical hideaway in the Alpujjaras before then.
