Just got back from Jack & Sheila's wonderful cottage following a really chilled out 2 weeks in this absolutely stunning setting. The cottage is exactly as described, all facilities available, spotlessly clean and has the most amazing gardens and of course a private swimming pool which was essential for cooling down from the sun. Jack & Sheila are excellent hosts and are always available to provide advice on places to visit, good restaurants, best tapas etc. etc. (they also treated us to a few drinkies and a bottle of olive oil produced from the olive trees in their back garden !) and the visitors book in the cottage provides evidence from guests who have been so impressed by their generosity, eagerness to ensure that you're having a great time etc. dating back to 2003. The local area is wonderful for walking, bird watching, touring & just chilling and we spent many a night with a glass of wine (well maybe a bottle !) sat under the old olive tree to the side of the cottage where the dining table is situated - absolute bliss. Orgiva has many restaurants & bars and is 100% Spanish (no Watneys Red Barrel or Full English here !) which is just as we wanted it, plus it encouraged us to speak Spanish which is great fun. We'd recommend the following restaurants - La Almanzera where you dine in an outside garden under the stars,Nemesis 1 for good food & service, Camping Orgiva for the most amazing tapas (which are free with every beer, making a ridiculously cheap meal), however there are many others that we didn't try, simply because we liked to barbecue at the cottage and then chill out under the old olive tree watching the sun slowly disappear as the shadows & colours changed on the mountains. Our barbies were further enhanced due to the resident dog (Tikki) & cat (Dudley) who are so affectionate and provide great entertainment! Amazingly, mountain villages (such as Trevellez - highest mountain village in Spain and worth visiting) are within easy striking distances and going in the other direction the Costa Tropical can be reached in 30mins - it really is the perfect location. All main roads are excellently maintained and the autovias (motorways) provide a fast route to all areas and due to the absence of traffic make driving pretty relaxed.
Hopefully I've provided a taster of what the cottage and immediate area are like - all I can say is we've travelled to numerous areas within mainland Spain and this has provided the most chilled out holiday to date.
