Based in the stunning Andalusian Mountains in Southern Spain, this is the ideal base to explore the Alpujarras National Park, ski in the Sierra Nevada, lie on the beaches of the Mediterranean Coast or explore Granada. Set among olive and almond groves, its rustic style will suit walkers, birdwatchers and those who prefer a more secluded and romantic holiday. This beautifully restored traditional Casita is set in a stunning tranquil mountain location. It is self-contained, sleeping up to 4 with its own private sunbathing terrace. There is access to a spring-fed pool to cool down after a hot day walking through the local mountains. Although giving a chance for complete peace and quiet in the mountains, it is just and easy 2 hrs drive from Malaga airport.

The ideal base to explore the Alpujarras National Park between Granada and the Mediterranean Coast. A short drive to the Buddhist Retreat and Meditation Centre - Osel-ling. A unique rural hideaway in the Sierra Nevada. The nearest town is Torviscon at 5.5km. Orgiva is a thriving town 13km away. Granada, with the beautiful Alhambra Palace and Moorish Albaicin Quarter is just under 1 hour away. From this base it is possible to ski in the mountains in the morning and sunbathe on the beach in the afternoon. Locally, you can cycle, horse ride, paraglide, mountain bike, swim or just walk.

Notes: Children are welcome, but as there is a short steep track to the house it may be considered unsuitable for very young children. There is access to a spring fed water reservoir between May and September. This is not heated and not always full but provides a beautiful, natural way to cool off from the sun!

It depends what you want from a holiday - we wanted peace and beauty and got it! There's you and little else within 3 miles, so if you're afraid of stars, mountains, cicada sounds or compost toilets, go to Marbella. The cortijo is small (you'll bump your head a few times) and lovingly restored - the photos don't lie. Gig and Ri are often around, living in the attached bigger section of the building and are wondrous people, full of fun and love for the place. This location demands a car for getting to the cortijo and for shops and beaches, and there's a fresh water spring a mile away for all the drinking water you can handle (with friendly bees to make you feel you've done something brave) . At night the whole sky is above you, and during the day the swimming is provided in an irrigation pool filled with spring water and regularly visited by (friendly) dragonflies and swallows (you're swimming in their drink). Solar panels provide the hot water so if you're into green living, this is your place. Orgiva is the nearest town with supermarkets,shops, internet cafes and restaurants (about 8 miles) , and you can cook basic meals in the cortijo (and they taste great outdoors) . Take a few books and musical instruments and you'll have a wonderful time. We'll be back !
