The old fishermen' quarter is by the beach, to the south of the zoo and on the other side of the old France Station; it was built in the mid-1600s with straight, narrow streets and still retains an agreeable village atmosphere.

The Saint John festivities (June 23) are fervently celebrated, with bonfires, devils that dance to the rhythm of traditional music and fireworks until dawn.
