Around the Apartment.:
The apartment is a few yards/ 50 metres away from the metro station that in 20 mins takes you straight to Las Ramblas, in the centre of Barcelona, which is the main promenade that goes from Plaza Catalunya to the harbour. There is a big supermarket in the basement of Corte Ingles of Plaza Catalunya. There is also a food market that you shouldn't miss: Mercat de la Boqueria, on Las Ramblas.
In La Floresta itself there are a genral store and a good small supermarket, three good local restaurants, including one charming open air rotisserie and a large area of virtually unspoilt countryside, Collserolla National Park, dotted with fine examples of Modernista architecture.
La Floresta is located on a quiet, pine-covered hillside. It was once called 'La Floresta Pearson', after the Canadian engineer who brought mains electricity to Barcelona in 1911, and planned the village. About the Collserola National Park :
The slopes of the Mt. Collserola near Barcelona, incorporate an area of 48.32 square kilometres (slightly less than 30 square miles). It is 124 meters (400 feet) above sea level with a population of 54,623. The municipality includes not only the urban centre of Sant Cugat but also the districts of Mira-sol, La Floresta and Las Planes and the district of Valldoreix. There is alarge golf course and great shopping.Much of it is part of the Collserola National Park, the closest to Barcelona, the capital city of Catalunya, a state within Spain, where Catalan is the first language and Spanish the second.
The presence of human culture in this area is ancient. Human remains from the Neolithic Period (2000-1500 BC) have been discovered in archaeological findings from the Cave of Torre Negra; and from the Bronze Age (after 1100 BC) in archaeological excavations of Can Fatjo of Aurons. The presence of Iberian culture is evidenced by remains from VI century BC.
