Ayamonte, the nearest town, is 10 minutes away by car and provides a wide range of additional shops, bars and restaurants. In between the apartment and Ayamonte is Isla Canela's 18 hole golf course. The apartment block has a shared swimming pool.

Ayamonte

The border town of Ayamonte is a charming mix of palm fringed squares, pedestrian walkways and little cobbled alleys. Although too small to get lost (head downhill and you’ll always find the Guadiana river) there seems to be a pleasant surprise around every corner. Cafes and bars abound with their tables and gaily-coloured sunshades spilling out onto the pavements, offering the weary visitor the chance to get out of the sun and enjoy some refreshment. The ferry across the river to the town of Vila Real is a fun trip and provides an easy way of getting a little taste of Portugal.

Huelva – Costa de la Luz

Costa de la Luz, known as the coast of light, comprises of almost 100 miles of golden sand and turquoise sea. This tranquil and unspoilt area on the southernmost tip of Spain is the western part of the Andalucia coastline facing out to the Atlantic Ocean. Huelva Province stretches from Ayamonte (location of Isla Canela) to the Donaña National Park and the River Guadalquivir. Nearby you can visit the various Columbus sites or the Marismas del Odiel wetlands and the Coto Donaña National Park.

Coto Donaña National Park

Donaña is the breeding ground of 8 species of fish, 9 species of amphibians, 17 species of reptiles, 125 species of birds and 28 species of mammals, and it is a stopping-off and wintering place for more than 150 species of birds, totaling many millions. Huge colonies breed in the cork oaks at the edge of the marshes, creating the famous nesting trees.
