Great two- week family holiday

We stayed at Mike and Emma's house for two weeks this summer. We had a large group (27 total)-- consisting of babies, children, adults and grandparents. Everyone felt completely comfortable, with plenty of space to hang out with each other or get away to be alone to read or rest. The main house and casita are spacious, but we spent most of our time outside enjoying all the different sitting areas and views. We circulated between time at the pool- which is enormous, dinner in the courtyard with the outdoor kitchen, in the side yard where Mike and Emma have a playhouse, hammocks, and "rock wall" for the kids to enjoy, and in the backyard where the ping pong tables are. There are beautiful old trees to climb, and hammocks scattered in different areas of the property.
While we wanted the children to see more of the Spanish culture, they did not want to leave the Finca. Mike found us a great baby sitter, so that the kids could stay and we could do day trips. You don't have to worry about packing entertainment for the kids- Mike provides more than enough toys, games, books, scooters, etc for all to enjoy. Mike also provided gates for the stairways since we had toddlers in our group.
If you decide to stay at the Finca, be prepared to do some driving. There is a great local restaurant below the Finca, called Antonio's and a small store for necessities. But, unless you are in really good shape, it is quite a difficult hike on foot, especially with the walk back up to the house. Towns with the larger grocery stores, where you will need to go to get your food for the week, are a good 40 minutes away. There are several really nice towns to visit- Loja, Antequera, Iznajar, and Rute are just a few of them. Because you are surrounded by the smaller, more rural cities, keep the Spanish schedule in mind as you plan your activities. You have to know that you will have a little drive and that the towns pretty much shut down in the heat of the day. Some larger cities, like Granada and Malaga are just an hour away. We did one overnight to Sevilla, which was only a two hour drive. There are some really easy and fun day trips close to the property.
This is the perfect place to come, especially if you have small children or older adults. It is safe, private, and comfortable. It's really nice to be able to tour many beautiful, interesting parts of Spain, but also to be able to come home to cook and swim and enjoy each other in an incredibly beautiful setting.
