The Island and the local town- Ayamonte:
Here the original culture and heritage of the local people is still very much present and is the home of large national parks and bird sanctuaries. Discover a warm and friendly countryside next to the glittering Atlantic, bathed in the light of the Spanish sun.
This area is famous for the number of local artists, many of whom draw their motivation from the quality of the light in this part of Spain.
Ayamonte is a traditional Spanish fishing village with the fishing boats going out every day and selling their catch to the local restaurants each day.
On the Island is a Golf course, vast fine sandy beaches, a modern marina, small commercial centres, restaurants and cafes. It is also home to a small fishing village as well as a large protected bird sanctuary.
The beach area has a wide, paved promenade immediately next to the wide, sandy beach. Our penthouse is within a secure gated complex directly facing onto the promenade and beach.

That Beach!:
On the Costa de la Luz you will find some of the most incredible beaches in Spain, with whiter and finer sands than their Mediterranean counterparts. Stretching almost the entire coastline, the beaches are typically framed by sand dunes and pine trees creating natural, rugged landscapes. The beaches of Isla Canela are truly breathtaking. The island boasts over 7 kilometres (5 miles) of fine sandy beach beside the clean Atlantic Ocean. It is 40 metres wide on average, a lot wider than most beaches on the other coasts of Spain.
The gentle slope of the ocean floor and the sand banks just off the coast ensure that the sea is always calm and safe to swim in along the whole beach with just gentle surf and never any big and dangerous waves. The size of the beach and the careful development of the residential resort with only a few select hotels also ensures that there is plenty of space on the sand to enjoy sunbathing, beach sports or just a walk along the shoreline without a crowd.
Golf:
Isla Canela is the perfect place to explore the golf courses close to the border between Spain and Portugal, only the Dunas de Doñana course at Matalascanas being more than an hour away by car. The majority of flights from the U.K. still come into Faro Airport. However, Seville and Jerez Airports are now being served by an increasing number of scheduled and charter flights and both airports are feasible alternatives to Faro. The beauty of the courses close to Isla Canela is that they are all rather different.
Compared to the Western Algarve and the Costa del Sol, Costa de la Luz – Huelva and the Eastern Algarve are as yet ‘undiscovered’. Green fees are lower, the courses are less crowded and less busy making it much easier to get a start time that you want and to be able to get round in reasonable time without delays. Isla Canela’s own course is set at the edge of the ‘Marismas’, those salt water marshes that form much of the terrain of Isla Canela and which have the benefit of protected status as natural parks. Like the ‘Marismas’, the course at Isla Canela is flat and open and makes for easy walking – but not for easy scoring! Other golf courses in the area include Islantilla, Nuevo Portil, El Rompido, Castro Marim, Benamor, Quinta da Ria, Quinta de Cima. This means that not only can you play in Spain you also have Portugal with its top class golf courses on your door step. Reduced green fees are available for residents of Isla Canela.
