Disappointing

Date of Stay: July 2008
We visited this villa in the last week of July last year, (2008). On the whole the villa was very clean and tidy, well kept with good facilities, the shaded area at the side of the house is one of the best I’ve ever seen and was a real benefit in the 30+ degree temperatures. There is no doubt that the views are nothing short of stunning! Geoff the owner and the local manager were very helpful and obliging. However there were two issues that spoiled the holiday for us, the first was the water, out of the 14 days we were there we had no water other than bottled, in fairness delivered by the manager, and the rest of the time it was intermittent. We’ve stayed in many villas in very similar positions and whilst I appreciate the difficulties with water in these situations we’ve never had the same level of problems before. It got to the point we would genuinely have a sigh of relief if the water came through the tap when we got up in the morning. The other issue related to the air conditioning, we chose the villa on the strength that we could get out of the heat of the day into the luxury of an air-conditioned lounge. When we arrived the air conditioning was not working in the lounge and despite highlighting this to both Geoff and the villa manager on out first day it remained broken until the end of the holiday which meant we either huddled into the one bedroom with A/C or stayed in the 30 degree shade outside. Two other notes of caution, the road to the villa is not for the faint hearted!! It is single track, very poor in the main, very steep and a long way from the main road. If you have a 4x4 great, if not make sure you take the extra insurance for tyres and the underside of your hire car, again we were used to this and unfased but some may find the road daunting. We were looking for a villa away from it all as a base for some travelling around, from that perspective it was great however there are very few places to eat out nearby, the bar at the bottom of the mountain road is friendly, clean, great value and serves tasty food but don’t expect to come here and find little culinary gems, we searched high and low and didn’t find any and there is no handy file in the villa to give you any clues. One last thing, don’t worry about the rats, they’re tree rats, indigenous to the area, clean and once you’ve got over the shock of seeing them run over the beams as you eat, quite cute! Personally I wouldn’t stay there again.
