Brand new villa built 2 years ago. Sleeps 8 people with 4 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Large lounge/dining area with ample seating, TV and DVD. Air Conditioning and ceiling fans in lounge and all bedrooms. Set in 1/2 acre garden with masses of tropical flowers and fruit trees. Lovely new pool finished to very high standard with poolside shower. Garden visited by numerous species of exotic bird life (kingfishers, sun birds, paradise flycatchers etc.). Located just 5-6 minutes walk from fabulous surfing beach of Hikkaduwa (used for international surfing competitions). Numerous restaurants along beach front to choose from. Maintenance manager close by to sort out any concerns and arrange excursions to any destination. Historic and shopping centre of Galle less than 1/2 hour away.

The property is on the southern edge of Hikkaduwa about 10 km north of Galle. It is set about 600 meters back from the internationally renowned surfing beach of Hikkaduwa, in a quiet and peaceful area surrounded by coconut palms. Colombo and the airport are 3-4 hours away. The Dutch Fort at Galle and the excellent diving at Unawatuna are about half an hour away. Overnight and longer excursions can easily be arranged to Yala National park, Pinawala elephant orphanage and the ancient historical sites of Sigiriya and Anuradhapura.

Serendib villa is a splendid new villa built on a plot of land we fell in love with when we visited Sri Lanka 3 years ago because the setting was so tranquil and peaceful. Despite this it is only 5-6 minutes walk from the famous surfing beach of Hikkaduwa with a multitude of restaurants to choose from. Our maintenance manager, Sarath, at the nearby Golden Sand Beach Hotel, will take care of any concerns you may have and arrange excursions to anywhere on the island. He will also collect you from the airport and take you back there at the end of your holiday.

The garden is a haven for bird life and you can see numerous exotic tropical species just sitting on the Veranda or stroll through the garden filled with Hibiscus, Frangipani and Bougainvillea flowers with papayas, bananas and mangoes ripening on the trees. The pool is of the same luxury standard as those at the 5 star Saman Villas Hotel and it is surrounded by coconut palms.

Serendib is a great place to do as much or as little as you want. Just chill out by the pool and watch the bird life, go for great surfing at the beach, or use it as a base to explore all the delights that Sri Lanka has to offer. A welcoming bowl of tropical fruit will be waiting for you on your arrival.

Small bit of paradise......

When you arrive in Sri Lanka on the journey to the resort it is very noticeable that in general the country has not yet been developed in the same way as European holiday resorts. This therefore did not prepare us for arriving at the villa.
We were lucky enough to book the villa for 18 days and to be honest the pictures on the website didn't completely do justice for how lovely the villa and garden are, they certainly had the “WOW” factor as you walked through the gates. The villa provides all the home comforts that you need in a beautiful garden setting with the benefit of a lovely swimming pool. If you like wildlife then you will not be disappointed as the birds in the garden are amazing and we also saw monkeys, lizards, fruit bats and the very entertaining palm squirrels, which look like chipmunks.
We found Sri Lanka to be a special holiday destination with lots of potential places to visit and the local resort had a real charm, which emanated from the friendliness and warmth of the people. The local people are keen to sell you something at any opportunity that some could find annoying, but they are trying to make a very small income and you get used to their requests for taxi rides, purchases and the inevitable foot massage on the beach. When you realise how little many of them earn it becomes totally understandable.
We ate at a number of different restaurants which all served good food including fish, noodles, rice, chicken, curry dishes and the Pizza house was no exception much to our surprise. If you don't want to walk too far then the managers hotel serves good food at very reasonable prices.
Sarath the manager makes sure that you are comfortable and arranged 2 excellent trips for us, one of which enabled us to see the mountain region and all its sights including the elephant sanctuary.
The villa is only a short walk from the beach and restaurants but this in itself gives you your own piece of seclusion from the busier resort. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the villa, it was a fantastic base for the holiday and we would definitely recommend this accommodation.

We stayed in this villa for almost three weeks in June 2008. The owners have done their utmost to make this a beautiful place to live in. All the amenities are there, although from a strictly personal point of view, provision of cable television would be a welcome aspect for family stays. Sri Lanka in general and this part of Sri Lanka specially are in need of some upgrading and cleanliness drive, but if you can accept it as part of the culture then you will be fine. Also once you are inside the gates of the property it is beautiful, the approach to the villa from the main road leaves a lot to be desired.
The owners John and Yun and Manager Sarath were great hosts and provided for us everything what they could.
