Despite its isolation, Graubunden boasts a handful of magnificent ski resorts which have slowly risen to global acclaim. The ski resorts of St Moritz and the Davos – Klosters region are some of the best loved ski domains in the whole of the Alps, offering fearsome skiing, breath-taking hiking, staggering scenery and a change to experience the Romansh culture, which still provides the driving force behind much of the architecture, language, music and cuisine you will encounter during your stay in Graubunden accommodation.

The stunning mountain scenery throughout Graubunden is ideal for walking, hiking, climbing and mountain biking. There are many, many miles of trails through majestic, snow capped mountain scenery, especially in the Engadin Valley, home to the only National Park in Switzerland, iconically named the Swiss National Park. However, for those with limited time or who feel they cannot access some of Graubunden’s more taxing trails, there are over 230 miles of rail lines which are a constant celebration of the amazing feats of engineering that allowed trains to cover this incredible terrain.

Middle Bunden (Mittelbunden) is right at the heart of Graubunden, as the name suggests, containing some of the highest peaks, the fastest flowing rivers and three excellent ski resorts, Arosa, Lenzerheide and Savognin.

The Davos – Klosters domain was the original major ski domain, offering a huge range and variety of slopes. There are some remarkable intermediate runs in the domain, as well as a huge amount of off-piste potential. Klosters, although less well connected than Davos, is the more beautiful of the two resorts, although you cannot go wrong with Graubunden accommodation in either!

The Flims/Laax/Falera domain is also a haven for intermediate skiers, offering over 135 miles of intermediate slopes alone. The domain is excellent, but done be fooled by the tourist offices slogan “Flims is crap’, or signs claiming to be a ‘Crap Restaurant’, ‘crap’ means ‘peak’ in local dialect!

Graubunden’s closest airport, Friedrichshafen Airport (FDH) is fantastic for holidays in Graubunden. Ryanair provide flights on three routes, from Dublin (DUB), Stansted (STN) and Liverpool (LPL), and there are shuttle busses running from the airport to all the major ski resorts in Graubunden.
