Corbeyrier is situated in the French speaking part of Switzerland, just east of Lake Geneva. On a sunny, south facing balcony overlooking the Rhône valley, the village is surrounded by (but not overshadowed by) mountains rising to over 3'000 meters (9'000 ft). The house is at an altitude of just under 1'000 meters (3'000 ft) above sea level. This is a totally unspoilt, little known area which is quiet and peaceful - but which offers many varied attractions just a short trip away. Lake Geneva is only 15 minutes away by car. There you can choose between a trip on the lake, a visit to Chillon Castle or a nice meal in one of the lakeside restaurants. The resort of Montreux offers a wide variety of attractions and events. Further afield, Evian, Lausanne and the cheese-making fortified town of Gruyère are all less than one hour away.

Notes: Corbeyrier was developed at the end of the 19th century as a center for patients recovering from tuberculosis. Situated above the fog layer, the climate is therefore particularly healthy with high annual sunshine levels. The local water mains supply is fed with pure mountain water from local springs - and (we think) is far better than bottled water ! For further information and more photos, feel free to contact us for our web site address.

Further details for this holiday chalet rental in Corbeyrier, Switzerland

Public transport: The chalet is a 5 minutes walk from the nearest Postbus stop. The service takes you down to the mainline station at Aigle in 20 minutes. The bus runs seven times a day, with good connections to and from Geneva airport. We encourage the use of the excellent public transport facilities and we would be happy to assist you in planning your trip, as well as any excursions you would like to make. Swiss public transport offer some attractive passes for those who wish to use these services - contact us for details!

Winter holidays - Or Montreux Jazz?: Corbeyrier is not a tourist resort, so why not have a winter holiday with a difference ? Enjoy the crisp clear air, the bright sunlight and the magnificent winter views. Go for walks in the snowy environment. Or, for the skiing enthusiasts, Corbeyrier is less than 40 minutes drive (60-75 minutes by public transport) from 7 major ski resorts. So you can ski in a different place each day, and get away from the discos and the souvenir shops each evening ! Corbeyrier is also only 20min drive from Montreux - perfect to enjoy the Montreux Jazz Festival early in July or other events during the year.

Sustainable tourism: We believe that each of us has a duty towards future generations and this includes the way we spend our holidays. Avoiding large, purpose built complexes with often dubious water and energy sources, not to mention inexistant water treatment facilities can contribute to this goal. Our property is well integrated into the immediate environment. We source electricity from a nearby hydraulic powerstation (so it is 100% renewable). Water is from the local mountain spring and is so pure it doesn't need to be treated. Waste water is cleaned before it is returned to the river. We have invested in technology to reduce water and power consumption (although you won't notice it during your stay!) and we participate in the municipal recycling scheme by seperating rubbish. You can limit the impact of your journey by using public transport (trains here are regular, punctual, safe and clean!) or, if you decide to fly, you can participate in a carbon offsetting scheme.

Other Activities: Bird watching

Some excerpts from our Guest Book:
'A superb chalet, spacious, well-equipped and with wonderful views'. 'Had a truly wonderful week, chalet is lovely'. 'The chalet was just what we were looking for, peaceful, functional, great views, remote enough to feel like you're escaping the 'rat-race' but close enough to towns (...) it was great sitting out on the balcony drinking local red wine and watching the stars appear!'. 'We have had an outstanding week in this homely, well equipped chalet'. 'A comfortable and relaxed home from home for 2 weeks which we loved coming home to each night'. 'The children loved their visit and we would certainly recommend the holiday and house to friends'. 'Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - thank you. Would love to return'.

Superb Chalet with stunning views!

Review Submitted: August 14, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
A wonderful, well equipped chalet with stunning views! We all had an incredibly relaxing week. Ahead of us was plenty of european city sightseeing so it was great to relax beforehand. The drive up to the chalet is interesting, loads of bends but brilliant view points, if you are looking for that typically Swiss chalet where you can go and buy fresh bread and basic provisions each day from the local shop then this chalet will NOT disappoint you! There is a super BBQ in a raised shaded area, with that beer or glass of red in hand and fantastic view nothing could be better!! Its only 20 mins to a great pool and Lake beach at Villeneuve and Montreux, Chillon chateau being in view from the beach! Local shops only a 20 min drive away too. Walking around the village, and waking each morning to the sound of the cow bells was fantastic, really relaxing in themselves. We have already recommend the chalet to friends. Shame we couldn't meet up with the owners, however, they were incredibly helpful and made the booking process very easy indeed! Thanks again we do intend to make a return if we can - we loved it!

Swiss Chalet near Montreux

DGA Wellesley, Mass. USA
Review Submitted: July 7, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
We arrived on a Monday and stayed through Friday at the end of June in 2009, four nights. The drive up the mountain was on a good road with many switch back turns. We were amazed we found a small village about 3/4 of the way up from the valley floor and our Chalet. It is not a five star hotel with many extras but it is an honest to goodness chalet that felt like our home while we were there. We had just come from a four star hotel in Zermatt and did not know what to expect. We got settled, met the owner who was very nice and went back down the mountain to shop. The valley provided any type of store you needed. The Chalet is centrally located so day trips of a few hours were no problem.
Our experience was similar to visiting our second home in New Hampshire on the Lake. It is not our primary home, but great for a visit just to get away.
We were gone most of each day touring but enjoyed the evenings walking around the village to the sound of the cow bells in the distance. We couldn't believe it stayed so light up to 10:00 p.m. and was so peaceful.
The bedding was adequate and we felt we were living just like the average swiss. The hot shower after a long day felt great along with one night of using the fireplace.

I would reccommend the experience there. If you want a four or five star hotel get one and pay the price. If you have always wanted to stay in an authentic Swiss Chalet in a mountain village, try it, you won't be disappointed. The rate was very fair compared to other Chalets and hotel rooms that we had researched. This is a summer review. I am a skier and feel, I would probably stay closer to my primary ski mountain in the winter.
