If you like picture postcard villages you will love Champery; a picturesque village nestling beneath the Dents du Midi. The apartment is ideal for winter / summer holidays for couples, families or small groups. Apartment is in a quiet block of 9 flats. A variety of good restaurants within walking distance. It was recently redecorated and furnished and is in excellent condition. The two sided balcony overlooks the lower part of the village to an uninterrupted view of the Dents du Midi beyond. Kitchen is fully equipped. The main bedroom has 2 single beds, the smaller bedroom has bunk beds and a single. Bathroom includes bath, bidet, shower. Other facilities include TV, DVD, wireless internet access, boot room, lift. Communal washing machine and warm air drying area in the basement, parking space outside. For skiers there is direct access to the vast Portes du Soleil ski area. You can either stay on the local slopes at the top of the cable car or ski across to Avoriaz (30 mins from the bottom of the Champery cable car) and beyond. In the summer there are 600Kms of biking and hiking trails. Everything from a gentle stroll along the valley floor to a multi day tour of the Dents Blancs and Dents du Midi. Bird watchers can visit the Col de Bretalet; a key migration route for a number of species. There are a number of other activities available in the village including use of the recently completed Palladium Sports centre. There is annual festival in mid summer for classical and jazz music lovers. Naturally heated spa pools in the next village. Champery is easily accessible by car or train. Montreux is half and hour away, Lausanne an hour and Geneva 1.5 hours by car. If travelling by train, the journey from Geneva (or Basel) is straightforward.

Notes: Large lounge / dining area with wonderful views. A secure wireless internet connection is available (PC/laptop is not provided, bring your own). Separate fully equipped kitchen with full oven, fridge,microwave and dishwasher. Communal washing machine and drying area in basement. Garden is a communal area. A caretaker looks after the building, This includes removal of material for recycling and wine bottles! The communal areas are cleaned daily. Children are welcome but note that the apartment is on the second floor so they must be supervised on the balcony. Lift available (but a few steps to reach it at ground level).

Winter: Staying on the Swiss side the skiing is mainly blue and red runs with a few notable exceptions such as the infamous 'Swiss Wall'. Depending or your skiing standard there is usually more than 1 way to get to your destination, so mixed ability groups can easily meet up for lunch. More advanced skiers can easily access gullies under the Mossettes chair, black runs in the Avoriaz / Morzine sector and off piste opportunities across the whole area. From Avoriaz you can do the complete circuit across to Lindarets, Chatel and Super Chatel before heading home via Torgon, Morgins and Champoussin. Finish your day with the red run down to Grand Paradis. There are some phenomenal picnic spots about halfway round which, on a clear day, provide superb views of Lake Geneva / Leman. For 2008/9 new 8 seater chair lift is being installed at Les Crosets. A new chair also being installed to improve the Champoussin / Les Crosets link.

Summer: Lifts remain open in summer to provide access to the 600Km of biking and hiking trails. The weather is generally mild until early November so Champery makes an ideal place for an autumn walking or cycling break. Some walks are themed e.g. local flora and fauna or local farming activities. A number of small restaurants are open at higher altitudes in the summer and can be reached either by car or by walkers. The biking trails can be accessed via the many lifts that remain open throughout the year. The recently completed Sports Centre has 2 swimming pools and an ice rink, There are natural spa pools at Thermes Parc in the next village and the Spa centre is being refurbished during autumn 2008. The recently completed Palladium centre has a swimming pool, ice rink and spa area. The courageous of all ages can try the Adventure Park in Champery. There is also one in Champoussin. Each year Champéry hosts a classical and jazz music festival in mid summer.

Further afield: In winter intermediate and advanced skiers can access the whole ski area including Morzine and Les Gets. In summer there are the towns of Montreux and Lausanne to explore. Lac Leman has a number of boat trips (reduced prices available with special rail pass). Also Chateau de Chillon, the Point Sud adventure park and the Swiss Vapeur Parc miniature railway. It takes about 25 minutes by car to reach France (Chatel) or use the road along the Lac Leman (Geneva) to visit Evian.
