Breithorn Chalet Was Perfect For Us!

Date of Stay: June 2011
My wife and I spent one week at Breithorn Chalet, the last week of June, 2011. It was perfect for our needs. In the middle of a six week work trip, and before a week-long conference in Geneva we took this week to be refreshed and to unwind. The location was perfect because it was not in the middle of a developed area and is set back off the road. So there are active farming fields, livestock, vege and flower gardens all around. Right across the street was a dairy where we could buy fresh milk and a small shop at the nearby camping facility supplied bread and eggs.
In the middle of the week we had three stunning and cloudless days which enabled us to fully appreciate the incredible majesty and beauty of the mountains, alpine meadows, streams, waterfalls, etc. We discovered the "friendship pass" that cost 140chf but gave us unlimited use for a week of the bus, train, and cable cars on the Murren side of the valley. That is very good value considering it is almost 100chf to go to the Schilthorn via the cable car round trip from Stechelberg, and 6.40chf return trip by bus into Lauterbrunnen.
I loved taking an hour's walk up and down the valley along the river each morning.
The owners, Adolf and Heidi, live upstairs and were very friendly and nice hosts, but also left us to ourselves. An unexpected treat was to be there when the farmers were cutting, raking, drying, and loading the hay fields all around. We loved the fact that the location is in the middle of "real life" (farming) rather than the artificial atmosphere of a developed resort area.
The apartment was one of the best equipped places we have rented anywhere in the world. It is "pleasantly rustic" and very comfortable. The space is good for one or two couples, or a small family. I believe the owners are going to install wireless internet access which would be a very good improvement.
We will long remember our wonderful holiday at Breithorn Chalet.
