Chalet Alexandra - December 2009

On my first visit to Saas Fee, I was delighted with the resort and the Chalet Alexandra. The chalet is well equipped for anyone wanting to self-cater and is in good walking distance of numerous interesting hotels, restaurants and bars for those who want to leave the pots and pans in the cupboards – which, incidentally, are very well made. The two bathrooms helped with the usual morning rush to get out and on the slopes and the standards of cleanliness throughout were excellent. Leather sofas to unwind on at the end of the day and a view of the numerous 4000 metre peaks from the living room windows all helped us to relax – you definitely know you’re away from it all.
Getting to the slopes was easy once we realised that the train, and the electric bus, both ran from a stop barely 100 yards from the front door and deposited us close to the oddly named Express lift – do they speed it up in high season, I wonder? Everyone we met in the village was helpful and friendly, which may be a result of the ban on cars.
All in all, a great base for a week’s skiing in this very clean, very pretty and very interesting resort.
