'Brides' magazine described Beatrix Cottage as one of the [12] most romantic in the world. It is set on a rocky hillside overlooking the beautiful Kaya Valley, near Fethiye. The ghost town of Kaya is a mile away. That town is the venue for the drama in Louis de Berniers' masterpiece 'Birds without wings'. The cottage is totally private, is entirely detached from its neighbours, and the ideal resting place for stressed out workers. [Or honeymooners]. There are local beaches, simple restaurants and basic supplies in the nearby village. There is no disco or 'Red Lion'. There are two swimming pools within walking distance. Fethiye town is a short drive away and there are beaches which can be reached by public transport, just 8 Km from the cottage. The village is steeped in history and your hosts are a mine of information. WE WILL SEND A GOOGLE-EARTH LOCATION PIC ON REQUEST.

Fethiye town is the ideal centre for most holidays. Unlike other centres it remained a working town. Kaya is a farming valley offering the minimum facilities for the 'average' tourist. There are excellent restaurants however. The walking is superb and the village people still maintain the hospitality for which Turkey is famous. Local produce is available from neighbors and for more serious cooks Fethiye has the best produce market on the coast. We regret the silly map on display. We are some distance from San Francisco. Your Hosts: John and Bea enjoy their guests! The first night welcome meal, served on one of the cottage terraces will be a feast to remember. Probably on the next day John will suggest a tour of the valley in his ancient Land Rover, guiding guests to the village shop, the simple restaurants and the two public pools in the valley. Bea is a superb cook and will prepare meals on request, not cheap but probably 'the best we have had in Turkey' to quote many previous guests. John has prepared the only available maps of the area, he has been a professional walk leader and a very experienced sailor. [See facilities]. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE CHANGEOVER DAY IS FLEXIBLE BUT MONDAY IS PREFERRED.

Facilities: Mountain bikes are available. Several boats are available. A paddle-pool is available for kids.

To the Hills!: After some 20 years living in the valley, John and Bea probably know more than anyone about the walking in the adjacent hills, the location of ancient ruins and other sites of interest. Bea knows her birds and bees and John knows the trails.
