Kalkan is the place for people that do not like the mass tourism found in many larger cities. Kalkan is sometimes referred to as the best kept secret of Turkey. The local people are very friendly and hospitable. Kalkan is built at the foot of the Taurus mountains. Its many small and winding streets are very romantic but also make Kalkan less accessible for people with a walking disability. The Kalkan area has a lot of places to visit like the impressive gorge of Saklikent, Patara beach (longest sandy beach of Turkey and famous turtle breading area), the mountain plateau with the village of Bezirgan, the trout farms in Islamlar or the historical monuments of Xanthos, Letoon, Kekova, Myra and others. Kalkan itself has extensive facilities for boat trips, swimming, diving, snorkelling, bird watching, walking etc.

A welcome pack consisting of tea, coffee, eggs, bread, butter, juice etc. will be waiting for you when you arrive. Our local English agent will be on hand to offer advice & local knowledge including hire cars, day trips etc. The villa will be cleaned and bedding changed once a week. Towels are changed twice a week. Garden and pool are maintained on daily basis. Extra cleaning can be arranged with our local agent at a small charge. Please bring your own laptop if you want to make use of the free wireless broadband internet access.

Transfer and Car Hire

The closest airport is Dalaman Airport which has scheduled flights from most UK airports. The scenic route to Kalkan takes about 1 hr 45 min's. If required we can assist organising transfers and car hire at competitive rates.

Written on 11th August 2007 in Guest Book: Coming to the end of our holiday now and having had such a good and relaxing time we are all feeling so much better. Dick & Jenny thank you so much for the use of your lovely villa again. Tracy thank you so much for your help and of course thanks to Rambo who kept the pool lovely and clean & clear for us.

We discovered 2 of the beach clubs this year, both very different but lovely to spend time in, especially Palm Beach Club. However Kalamar Beach Club offers scuba diving at a very reasonable rate and Phoebe (11yrs) loved this experience, and for Imogen (15yrs) there was internet access!

Did Saklikent Gorge again and this time went through the freezing water. Some enterprising children will hold your hand and help you through the rapidly running river! We walked almost to the end. Some parts are quite tricky but a young student "picked us up" and helped us get to the end of the walk and back. This was brilliant, we would never have done it without him and we are very glad we achieved it. Tlos fish farm for lunch after that - lovely.

Also went on the sunken city trip. Perfectly nice day out on a boat, with lots of swim stops and excellent food. View of the sunken city takes minutes only, so don't be disappointed.

Favorite restaurant: Odak restaurant - above the turkish delight shop on the left as you walk into town. Excellent in all ways with no silly frills.
But all restaurants we tried were good.

Kalkan town is so pretty and friendly. The weekly market is fun to wander through and there are some bargains to be had.

We will be back again sometime, we just love this villa and the town, and it has been a pleasure communicating with you both by email and telephone.
