Make a holiday rental home or holiday cottage in the UK your home away from home
The UK, or United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, as it is formally known, encompasses all England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The many constituent parts of the UK vary hugely in culture, atmosphere and scenery, despite the relatively small size, and there are very few places that can match UK holidays for their ancient heritage and historical attractions, not to mention the excellent walking, fishing, shopping and golf holidays in the UK available. Regardless of how well travelled you are, there are always more undiscovered corners of home to explore and investigate, so whatever time of year, whether you are looking to enjoy a long UK holiday or a short, relaxing UK weekend break, there are a huge number of charming UK holiday cottages from which to explore.
Things to do in the UK
It is very hard to know where to start with a guide to UK holidays. Any avid golfers will already be acutely aware of the home of golf, Scotland, whose historical golf courses including St Andrews, Royal Troon and Camoustie created the sport we know and love today. Golf holidays in the UK also thrive in England and Northern Ireland, with golfers flocking to UK holiday cottages from across Europe.
The Great British countryside is an outdoor activity haven from one end of the country to the other, offering some of Europe’s most exciting walking, mountain biking and horse riding holidays. Great walking and riding routes including the many coastal paths, which almost circumnavigate the country, the countless routes through the dramatic landscapes of the Lake District, Cotswolds and the Highlands of Scotland (to name just a few), offer sensational scenery with traditional country pubs on-route in which to have a hearty meal and rest your weary feet before heading onwards.
The British coast is a particularly popular place to take holidays in the UK. Each part of the coast tells a different story of British history, as well as providing visitors with almost every style of holiday accommodation, beach and atmosphere those taking a holiday in the UK could ask for. With charming UK holiday cottages, homes and apartments all along the coast, whether you are hoping for a traditional beach holiday in the UK, a coastal walking holiday, fishing holiday, sailing holiday or simply a quiet, secluded UK break by the sea, your options are almost unlimited.
Of course, rural and coastal regions of the UK are not the only places to have huge appeal to visitors or Brits on UK weekend breaks. Word-famous cities from London to Edinburgh, Belfast to Cardiff, offer countless attractions ass well as some of the most famous sporting and cultural events in the world. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Wimbledon Championships and BBC Proms are particularly popular periods to take UK breaks, but throughout the year, British towns and cities host events of world-wide acclaim.
