Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Conwy, United Kingdom

Local attractions: There is plenty to do and see in Conwy itself and due to its central position a car is not essential when staying in Gwynfryn. The Royal Cambrian art gallery is seconds from the cottage, as is Plas Mawr, the “Great Hall”, which is the finest surviving town house of the Elizabethan era to be found anywhere in Britain. There is Conwy Castle constructed by Edward 1 between 1283 and 1289 with 8 huge round towers and soaring curtain walls. The town is guarded by the town walls which stretch over three quarters of a mile and have 22 towers. Also within the town is the National Trust's ancient Aberconwy House, Britain’s smallest house, the newly refurbished quay side and the butterfly jungle. For those who enjoy walking there is the Marine walk, which can take you round to the marina and beaches, Bodlondeb woods, Conwy Mountain where you can walk as far as you want, enjoy spectacular coastal views and see Welsh wild ponies, or a shoreline path walk to Deganwy, Llandudno and the Great Orme.

Other activities & places of interest: Also close by are Conwy golf Club, Llandudno Golf Club & North Wales Golf Club, public tennis courts 5 minutes walk away, Aberconwy beach and The Langley Spa where spa treatments and hair dressing is available to non – members. Within walking distance is a 24 hour Tesco supermarket, Cineworld, MacDonalds, Pizzaland and KFC.There is a regular bus service to the picturesque Victorian seaside resort town of Llandudno (5 mins drive), which hosts North Wales' top theatre 'Venue Cymru', has wonderful wide ornate canopied shopping streets and modern shopping mals, boutiques, restaurants, beautiful promenade and beaches, a brand new swimming pool complex, a dry ski slope, toboggan run, Bronze-age copper mines, historic tramway, Victorian pier and cable-car lift on the Great Orme headland .The National Trust's Bodnant Gardens is about 15mins drive and there is a train station in Conwy and Llandudno Junction from where you can easily travel to Chester, Manchester, London or Dublin in Ireland.

The property: Gwynfryn is approached through a private courtyard, set back from the main road. The patio catches the sun for most of the day. The cottage is not accessible for wheel chairs and due to the two flights of stairs would not be suitable for those unable to use them. The patio is a great sun trap for most of the day and there is a large table and parasol with 6 chairs.

Other Activities: sightseeing.

Lovely Cottage

Ronconmom Oxfordshire
Review Submitted: July 21, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
This was a perfect spot to call "home" during our long weekend in Conwy. The cottage was warm and inviting; very clean and well-maintained. The views from the top floor sitting room across to the castle are incredible. We spent our evenings watching the light change on the castle. The location is perfect for everything in the town of Conwy. Parking was not convenient, but we did as suggested and unloaded the car, then parked in the long-term lot. We didn't need the car until we left the town.
Conwy is our new favorite Welsh town and we wouldn't hesitate to return and stay at Gwnfryn. We saw everything there was to see (Conwy isn't huge) and enjoyed it all. We have two young boys and they loved the castle, the town and the Smallest House in Great Britain (worth the 50p). The cottage is very child friendly. There are gates on the stairs along with board games and videos.
The only suggestion would be to leave a list of recommended restaurants (or flyers) in the cottage. It wasn't difficult to walk around and find restaurants, but some recommendations would have been helpful.
Overall, a really great weekend.

beautiful Conwy

Review Submitted: February 25, 2009 Date of Stay: February 2009
we spent a lovely 3 days in Conwy and in this lovely "cottage". There is more than enough space for a medium sized family and even more spacious for a small one.
My favourite thing was the wood burner and we enjoyed lovely nights by the fire. I loved waking up to seeing Conwy Castle from the window.
The cottage is in the most perfect location to access literally everything that Conwy has to offer.
Would definitely visit again, given the chance. Thanks to Rob & Claire for the opportunity.

Just the perfect place to be

Martin (and Ellen) Menden, Germany
Review Submitted: November 4, 2008 Date of Stay: October 2008
Whatever kind of vacation you prefer, this is the place to stay.

Details may sound exaggerated but in fact, they are a real understatement. Never ever have we come across the word 'gorgeous' that often in a visitors' book.

Loving spacious habitations, we would rather stay at Gwynfryn with a maximum of 4 adults and 2 children. To enjoy the overwhelming view from the top especially at night, you'd rather send the children to the nearby youth hostel (10 min walk) ;-)

If you love cooking, you will enjoy the well-equipped kitchen although you will have to do the dishes yourself. Otherwise, you could visit two upperclass restaurants and an affordable one within three minutes walking distance. Fish and chips, an Indian take-away or kebap are available, too. :-(

Sightseeing within easy reach is nothing but galore: the castle, the town walls, the smallest house in GB, a 13th century town house and the Elizabethan Plas Mawr (!), plus a historical pub right at the harbour - and that's just within the walls. By car or public transport, there are enough options for three or more weeks including Llandudno (Victorian sea-side resort, nice shopping, the Great Orme with cable-car and funicular, spectacular walks), beautiful Snowdonia, slate mines, prehistorical copper mines, Bodnant Garden (!), Caernarfon, Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch (well...), Betws-y-Coed, Treffriw woollen mill, maybe Chester, Wrexham, Liverpool and a lot more. Walk down to the mouth of river Conwy, ruled by the tide, within two or three minutes.

There's a big Tesco within reach, a cinema, a local supermarket open 7/7 until 10pm just around the corner, a very friendly bookshop, free internet at the local library, a butcher, a bakery, a shop with Mediterranean cheeses and other stuff, etc. The local High Street is small but very nice.

Weather permitting, you will enjoy being outside. The patio is situated in front of the house within a backyard in the city centre. The street outside the hidden doorway is not really inviting too much traffic. You wouldn't notice anyway. Just smile at the tourists walking the city walls behind the house and make them envy you :-))

Honestly, we will be back as soon as we can. With very nice weather in Oct 2008 (sparing the powerful heating), Gwynfryn really was a place where we felt like finally being home within less than 10 minutes after our arrival.

Go for it and have a nice time (maybe one of the best of your life)!

A beautiful cottage in a great location

Stamford Lion Chesterfield
Review Submitted: August 6, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
This is a beautiful cottage with everything you need. The location is superb with fantastic views from the bedrooms of Conwy Castle. My family and I had a wonderful time here and would definitely recommend this to anyone wanting to stay in Conwy. The cottage was lovely and clean. Claire the owner is very helpful. Food at The Bridge was awful, so avoid that, we had a takeaway from The Raj which was very nice. We also went to Alfredo's the food was fantastic, just avoid having the vegetarian lasagne. Take a visit to Butterfly World, it was fab. Visit the Tower Coffee Shop, they sell lovely coffee and you must try the Spooky Dungeon ice cream and if your brave enough, eat it downstairs in the Spooky Dungeon. Conwy Castle is a must and a walk around the castle walls. Be aware if you visit the beach just up from the Marina. There was a lot of glass on there and it was very muddy near the edge of the sea...How bizzare !!!

Cozy, comfortable, and great location

PRL St. Ives, Cambridgeshire, UK
Review Submitted: May 21, 2008 Date of Stay: November 2007
As Americans temporarily living in the UK, we were looking for a place to getaway for our Thanksgiving holiday. We found the perfect place in Gwynfryn and will likely return this Thanksgiving. We prepared our feast ahead of time, packed it in the car and had a lovely time. Our daughters (5 and 9) loved Gwynfryn, particularly the bunk beds and the loft. The fireplace kept us all cozy. Conwy is a lovely, historic, walled town and Gwynfryn backs up to the walls and has a great view of the castle. The home is perfect for two adults and up to 2 children. I think more than that would make for tight quarters. Parking can be a challenge near Gwynfryn, but there is plentiful, inexpensive street parking a 2 minute walk from Gwynfryn. Conwy's setting is ideal for touring North Wales and the Snowdonia area. I would definitely recommend!
