The town of Alba is the gateway to the Langhe Mountains in Piedmont, Italy. Alba is encased by impressive Roman walls, which historically protected the ancient buildings that still stand proud today. Things to do in Alba, Italy

There are many beautiful sights to behold in Alba. The historical centre is a true marvel, encased by thick, defensive walls. The core of the village, the 15th century Cathedral in Piazza Risorgimento, cannot be missed on any Alba holiday, and there are many beautiful religious buildings to explore in and around the centre of Alba.

Alba is a food and wine connoisseurs dream. Although Alba is primarily known for its truffles and the huge Alba Truffle Festival in October, white truffle month, food in general is highly prized in Alba. The food market by the River Tanaro draws chefs from across Piedmont and indeed much of Italy for their fresh produce, and the restaurants of the town serve dishes that you could only dream of at home, from quail risotto to true pasta asciutta. Those with even a fleeting interest in wines to real sommeliers will be spoilt for choice in wines from self catering accommodation in Alba either.

Apart from during the months of October and November, the hills of the Langhe Mountains are free from truffle hunters and perfect for walking and riding. There are many miles of paths leading up through the foothills and into the higher peaks from where you can see many miles across Italy.
