Altea is regularly considered the most beautiful town on the Costa Blanca. It is one of very few places along this stretch of coast which has retained much of its original character, and whilst the town offers all that is great about a Costa Blanca holiday, it is quieter and more authentic than many of the other resorts along this stretch of coast.

Places to holiday in Altea, Spain

If you are looking for bustling nightlife and extensive water sports, Benidorm is just 25km up the coast. The hugely popular town of Calpe is just south of Altea, so there are plenty of options for more bustling and less peaceful days out from your Altea villa.

The surrounding villages of Altea are defiantly worth exploring. There are some great shops, markets and crafts available, especially in La Nucia, not to mention local delicacies and restaurants to be found.

Things to do in Altea, Spain

The Church of Nuestra Senora del Consuelo is Altea’s most famous landmark with its striking blue roof. It is also the highest point in Altea, so if undoubtedly a magnificent starting point to get your bearings once you arrive at your holiday rental apartment in Altea. The harbour is where much of the activity in Altea occurs, as this is not only the start of Altea’s beach, but a working fishing harbour too. It is a very pretty place, used by fishermen and luxury yachts alike.

Altea beach is over 5km long, and is divided into three separate sections, from Cap Negret in the north to Cap Blanc in the south. The beaches of Altea are not the fine sand beaches which have become synonymous with the Costa Blanca, but do offer a peaceful alternative when you take a holiday villa in Altea.

There is no shortage of golf courses available to a holidaymaker staying in an Altea villa. Oliva, Elche, Chiva, El Saler and San Juan Beach all have magnificent 18 hole courses offering views over the sea and to Sierra de Bernia Mountains.

There are a huge range of activities in Altea to keep everyone happy on a family holiday. Tennis, golf, windsurfing, scuba diving football, fishing, sailing walking and horse riding are all available from top class facilities. Sailing, scuba diving and fishing are catered for levels of all abilities, and instruction is readily available.

There are also a number of annual fiestas to enjoy from an Altea holiday villa. June until September is the main fiesta season, but there are also events in the December and January.

The Costa Blanca around Altea is blessed with a magnificent Mediterranean climate. From the summer months of July, August and September to the coldest months of December and January, average temperatures remain above 15˚C. Daily summer temperatures soar to over 30˚C on a regular basis.

Flights to Altea, Spain

British Airways, EasyJet and RyanAir are the service providers who most regularly offer cheap flights to Altea. Murcia Airport (MJV) receives daily flights throughout the year from all main airports in the UK, and due to the competition from providers, there are often great deals available, further reducing the cost of taking a holiday rental in Altea.
