The wine caves and vineyards in the area are great for visiting, and walking or cycling on the quiet roads is popular. If you prefer the coast, this is within reach too, but Lac Jouarres is just as good, if not better! These include the historical Parish Church of Saint Julien and Saint Basil, the Pre-Romanesque church, and the Royal Abbey of Saint Claire, amongst other things. Just outside the village is Canal du Midi; a canal that was built in 1666 and is now a World Heritage Site.

Within about 20 miles (30km) of your Azille self catering accommodation is the town of Carcassonne. The most prominent attraction and landmark here is the spectacular fortress. Fully restored in the 1800’s this immense fortress has, understandably so, been added to UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites list. Other towns and cities within a day trip’s reach include Narbonne, Montpellier, and Toulouse.
