There is also a 7km observation path with hides around what is usually a good spot for wildlife.

In fact, the Bavarian Forest has the highest concentration of castles and stately homes in Europe. The famous Karner in Chammuenster is a staggering, and quite eerie attraction, filled with skulls and bones dating back to the Middle Ages. Winter sees skiers flocking to the Bavarian Forest, especially the Grosser Arber, the highest mountain in the area. There are a huge amount of off-piste skiing, as well as many miles of cross-country skiing trails.

The town of Grafnau is known as the gateway to the Bavarian Forest, and a fantastic place to visit at any time of year. The Salt Carriers Festival or Saeumerfest celebrates over 600 years of life in the region, and the weekly market is a perfect place to visit to enjoy local delicacies and explore the many craft shops selling amazing pieces from the Bavarian Forest.

The climate in the Bavarian Forest is wonderfully mild. During the summer months, temperatures reach a maximum of around 32˚C in the middle of the day, easily cool enough for walking, riding, cycling and climbing in the Bavarian Forest. The winter months can be cold, but with less people and less foliage, wildlife spotting can be easier and just as exciting as it is during the summer months.
