Make a holiday rental home or villa in Beja, Portugal your home away from home

The Beja region of Alentejo, Portugal is also known as the Baixa Alentejo region. It is one of the most unspoilt regions of the hugely natural Alentejo region, and is adorned with amazingly graceful and ornate buildings which date back all the way to the Moors.

Things to do in Beja, Portugal

Beja is a perfectly peaceful city, whose ancient heritage is still clearly seen. There are many mixed architectural styles throughout Beja, which creates a wonderfully cosmopolitan atmosphere. The 14th century Convento da Nossa Senhora da Conceicao convent is particularly worth investigating from Beja accommodation, as it mixes Gothic, Baroque and Arabic styles, and houses one of the most impressive historical museums in the whole of Portugal, displaying important artefacts including Roman mosaics, pre-historic carvings and iron-age coins to name just a few of the attractions. The 4th century Visigoth church, imposing Torre de Mengem and vast Beja Castle must rate highly on any list of attractions to be visited from Beja accommodation.

A holiday property in Beja affords visitors some sensational views across the Alentejo Plains, Portugal’s most important agricultural feature. The sleepy little villages, charming farmhouses and elegant villas that prop up along the plain provide plenty of refreshment opportunities, lively debates and wonderful views as you walk, ride or cycle through Beja, and you will almost certainly stumble across one of the amazing historical ruins that litter the area, from the Roman ruins of Sao Cucafate to the underground caves of the charming Sao Sebastiano Chapel.

Places to visit on holiday to Beja, Portugal

If the allure of the coast becomes too much during your stay in a Beja property, the beautiful coastline of Alentejo Litoral is never far, and always worth visiting. The coastline is wonderfully natural, with tiny, secluded sand beaches filling the gaps between the huge, imposing cliffs. Water sports absolutely thrive along the coast of Alentejo Litoral, from surfing to sailing, windsurfing to scuba diving in the Atlantic.

Lisbon, the Portuguese capital, is also just 90 minutes by car from a holiday rental villa in Beja. If you are flying from Lisbon Airport, taking a few hours either on your way to or from your self catering Beja apartment is a great idea, as there is simply so much to see and do in Lisbon that ignoring an opportunity to visit would be almost unforgivable!

Weather in Beja, Portugal

The climate of the Beja region is beautifully mild. The region is protected from the winds of the coast, and the winter months are magnificently mild. During the summer months, temperatures are routinely around 35˚C during the middle of the day, and from May until September, the long evenings are easily warm enough to enjoy your evening meal outside.

Cheap flights to Beja, Portugal

Although there are plans to increase the size of Beja Airport to receive international flights, you must still use either Faro International Airport (FAO) or Lisbon (LIS) in order to reach a holiday rental property in Beja. There are frequent flights from the UK to both, and a hire car is advisable for visiting a Beja villa.
