From its position at the head of the Guadalmina Gorge, Benahavis is a wonderful place to sit and relax, sampling a range of the finest gastronomy in Andalucia. The only real option for taking accommodation in Benahavis is to rent a self catering Benahavis villa as you will want to try as many restaurants as you can whilst you are here. ‘Foodies’ may end up taking a long term rental in Benahavis as they will find it very hard to leave!

To make room for your next meal, the strenuous walk to the nearby Castle of Montemayor, an 11th century Arab ruin stands proudly, admiring all in its shadow from the highest mountain in the area. The views over the coast are breathtaking, but be warned, the walk is tough. The area surrounding Benahavis is rich in wildlife and ideal for walking and cycling holidays throughout the year, although the village does become quite busy in the summer.

Heading down the Guadalmina Gorge towards the coasts brings you to the Guadalmina golf course, just 7km from Benahavis town centre. It is a lovely mountain golf course, offering a very different sort of challenge from the golf courses in the UK, and if you are a keen golfer, I recommend making time for a round whilst you are renting accommodation in Benahavis.

Despite its mountainous location, beaches of the Costa del Sol are within a fifteen minute drive of a Benahavis villa. There are a host of watersports and five more golf courses available along this stretch of the Costa del Sol.

Driving towards the coast from a Benahavis villa you will first find the town of San Pedro. This is a lively, clean town whose beach has repeatedly been awarded the European Blue Flag, so is a perfect place to soak up a few rays when staying in accommodation in Benahavis.

Turning left onto the coastal road, you will reach Puerto Banus, a luxurious beach resort for the rich and famous. The resort is best known for its magnificent combination of small, fashionable boutiques, multi-million pound yachts and lively nightlife.

Throughout the year temperatures are blissfully warm in Benahavis. With winter average temperatures hovering around 15?C, and summer temperatures soaring to averages of around 30?C, the refreshing mountain breezes are a great asset.

Travel to Benahavis, Spain

Benahavis is just over an hour from Malaga Airport (AGP), but the trip is well worth it. There are many cheap flights to Malaga from across the UK, and plenty of transfers, costing in the region of £20. Alternatively, hiring a car is a great way to explore the region, especially if you are thinking of taking long term rental accommodation in Benahavis.
