St Phillip - Sand, sea and Sunburst

Hello, I’m Suzie. Welcome to my personal travel guide to the beautiful island of Barbados.

After years of reading travel guides to various prospective destinations around the globe, Holiday-Rentals.co.uk have provided me with the opportunity to write my own!

I feel the first thing I should say is that after travelling to many countries both East and West it surely speaks volumes that Barbados should be the place our family chose to become our second home.

The choice for us was quite simple. The year round 30 degree climate was very appealing, becoming ever more so in view of the good old ‘British summer’! The island has many breathtaking beaches, (the best of which, in my humble opinion, is minutes away from our home) and the restaurants are plentiful, varied and excellent, so for us, our holiday check list was fairly near complete.

Bottom Bay is situated on the south east coast of the island in the parish of St Philip and as we were asked to write about our local area the first thing that comes to mind is that as yet, that particular part of the coast is quiet and not developed and generally speaking, all the local residents would like to keep it that way. It’s very peaceful and not at all crowded. However, a 5 minute car ride will take you to the supermarket, bank and post office.

As the island is only 26 miles long by 14 miles wide so I feel justified in talking about the whole island. Indeed another reason why I feel Barbados is such a good destination is that it can feel like several holidays in one if you wish to get out and about around the island. From the north to the south and east to the west the coast lines are all incredibly different and all equally beautiful in different ways. The west coat has flat calm sea, however, head to the east and you will find people surfing on the Atlantic rollers.

If you need more from a holiday destination than just sand and sea, Barbados has a lot to offer.

Whatever month of the year you choose to visit there will always be plenty to do ranging from visiting various cultural and music festivals, to viewing the National Trust Open Houses. Sport fans have the choice of watching horse racing, polo, golf and of course cricket. There are organised walks at various destinations around the island and nature lovers can visit natural wonders such as Welchman Hall Gully and the Animal Flower Cave.

I could probably wax lyrical about Barbados and what it has to offer for many hours as I have not yet mentioned the friendliness of the people you will meet there or their history which can be explored as can their arts and crafts.

The best advice I could give you is to visit the island and see for yourself, oh, and incidentally I know somewhere really nice to stay too!

Enjoy!
