Walk the Wall of Plague
The sad tale of Marseilles’ attempt to prevent the spread of bubonic plague in 1720 is seen in the nearby plague wall. Brought into Marseilles on the merchant ship “Grand-Saint-Antoine” the plague devastated the city. In order to quarantine the city, the “Mur de la Peste” or plague wall was built across the countryside, 2 metres high and 70 cm thick. Parts of it remain and make an interesting walk from your holiday home in Cabrieres-d’Avignon to Methamis.
