Cambridgeshire cottages and holiday rental homes give you a home a way from home as you explore

The County of Cambridge or Cambridgeshire (Cambs) is in the East of England and borders Lincolnshire, Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire and Northamptonshire. It is an area where there has been many archaeological finds from the Stone, Bronze and Iron Ages, especially around the location of Isleham. Cambridge University is the second oldest English speaking academic institution in the world.

Places to stay in Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire is steeped in heritage so is a favourite with tourists and some popular destinations include the three cities, Cambridge, Ely, Peterborough, as well as Great Staughton, Hilton, March, Spaldwick, Whittlesey and Wisbech. There is so much to see and do in Cambridgeshire with many opportunities for brilliant day trips. The best way to do this is by renting self-catering accommodation and holiday cottages.

Most Cambridgeshire cottages are in the smaller towns and villages like Denton, which is close to Stamford and ideal for visiting Cambridge, Rutland Water, the Burleigh Horse Trials or Wisbech, a prosperous Georgian town often referred to as capital of the fens.

Holiday cottages in Cambridgeshire are far more convenient than hotels and guesthouses where there are set meal times and offer a wide variety of accommodation including converted beamed barns, farm cottages renovated railway carriages, riverside cottages, converted coach houses and seaside cottages along the East of England coastline.

Things to do in Cambridgeshire

The East Anglia coastline in Cambridgeshire is truly fascinating despite there being no cliffs worthy of mention. However there are long stretches of golden beach, extraordinary tidal inlets and bird reserves galore. The Cambridge and Peterborough bird clubs have lectures and year-round outings. St Neots Bird Club has closed but this area has lovely country cottages and is nearby for Huntingdon racecourse, Hinchingbrooke Country Park, Wyboston Lakes and the Swiss Garden.

Cottages in Castle Camps are ideal for visiting Linton Zoo, Mole Hall Wildlife Park and the Imperial War Museum and only fourteen miles from the Cambridge Arts Picture House. There are over thirty museums in Cambridgeshire offering a wide range of collections in different settings. Cambridgeshire County Council runs some, others the University of Cambridge or independent charitable trusts.

Cambridgeshire has it all – countryside, waterways, market towns, the Nene and Oust valleys, the Fens, beautiful gardens, historic houses and sites, arts, crafts and galleries, old fashioned breweries, ancient abbeys, many cultural offerings and the only American Military World War II Cemetery in Britain. The Duxford Air Shows are spectacular events in the spring, summer and autumn and Newmarket races offer world class racing for the summer months.

Weather in Cambridgeshire

Cambridgeshire in the East of England is considered the UK's driest area and often, the sunniest.
