Bergerac, Dordogne - The way it is!

There are many interesting things to do, see and take part in around Campsegret and the immediate area depending on the season. As with most French Communes, 14th July features greatly in our festivities which are open to locals with visitors warmly welcomed, whilst Bergerac has one of the best fireworks displays that evening. Around our village there are numerous walks of varying length, from 5 -20 kms through endless oak & pine woods. Bergerac, nearby, has wine and tobacco museums, restaurants to suit most pockets, all serving high quality food from village markets held each Wednesday & Saturday and well worth a visit even if you are not looking to buy anything!

One of the main attractions of the area are the many vineyards to visit with Monbazillac a must. Even if you are not a wine drinker, the various chateaux should be visited. Further away are the Lascaux Caves and Sarlat further east along the Dordogne River. We find the local people extremely friendly and helpful and eager to pass on local knowledge.

The weather is generally warmer and drier with clear blue skies the summer norm. Spring is the time for the blossoms on the many cherry, apple, pear and plum trees producing a wonderfully colourful sight. Autumn is the time to gather chestnuts, walnuts and mushrooms and look at the colours of the falling leaves and smell the smoke from the many wood burning stoves in the houses, something not too common in the UK now. The area has many gastronomic delicacies - duck, goose, foie gras, pâté, truffles, wild mushrooms, cherries, plums, strawberries and nuts and endless varieties of cheese all on our doorstep.

If you seek peace and tranquillity, it is here in abundance too.

All in all, the Dordogne has more plus points than I have space to tell you about so why not just come and see them for yourselves?
