Caprese Michelangelo is a small village with a population of just 1,600 (approx), and most visitors come purely to visit the birthplace of the village’s most famous son. There are several sights which focus on the life and times of Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, including the Michelangelo Museum and Library – which is an absolute must-see for anyone holidaying in the area. The museum is housed in his birthplace, the Casa del Podesta, and displays life-sized copies of his masterpieces and other works by some of the most famous contemporary sculptors.

A couple of notable churches also attract a regular stream of visitors, most notably the 13th century Church of St. John the Baptist – where Michelangelo was baptized, and the San Paolo a Monna. The abbey of San Martino a Tifi also warrants a visit.

The village is ensconced in chestnut groves, and the chestnut is the local product, with tasting sessions are held on a regular basis. This culminates with the annual October wine and food event, which is regarded as the main event in the village’s calendar. The chestnut groves and surrounding woods are a great place for a stroll on a sunny day, though you will get to see a lot more if you take up the option of horse riding.

As Caprese de Michelangelo is relatively small, visitors will likely want to get out and about to the surrounding areas when holidaying here. One of the several adjacent towns is Anghiari – a beautiful medieval town that lies between two rivers. Arezzo is just 40km away, allowing you to escape back to the hustle and bustle and of city life if you so wish to do so.

Rainfall is relatively low all year round, allow visitors to enjoy the outdoors and soak up the Tuscan sun.

Flights to Caprese Michelangelo, Italy

The best bet in terms of flights is a budget flight to Arezzo Airport (QZO), and then completing the journey by hire car, or coach (changing at Anghiari). Arezzo is just 40km, and cheap flights are relatively easy to find. Failing that you can fly to Florence (FLR), but this more than doubles the second leg of your journey.
