Capri may be small, with an area of just 6.5 square miles (10.4 sq km), but don’t let this fool you into thinking there’s not much to see or do here! Capri is actually an island full of surprises and is a hugely popular destination. Because of its size, holiday accommodation is always in high demand so villas in Capri, and indeed all other forms of accommodation, should be booked as early as possible.
Enjoying the beaches and harbours of Capri is a favourite pastime, but you should also not miss some of the island’s other highlights. These include the intriguing Blue Grotto, a famous sea cave which can be visited by boat. Also in the water are the large scenic limestone Sea Stacks. The main settlement on the island is the City of Capri, though Anacapri is also an important community too. The chairlift from here up to the island’s highest point, Mount Solaro is popular for the scenic views from the top. A number of impressive Roman villas can be seen around the island including the Villa San Michele and Villa Jovis.

Although there will be plenty nearby to your self catering accommodation in Capri, the proximity to mainland Italy means you can nip across the water for a day trip to numerous destinations. Naples is the closest large city. The centre is listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in recognition of the city’s historical and cultural significance. Not far from Naples is the amazing site of Pompeii, the ancient city which was buried when Mount Vesuvius erupted.

You’ll enjoy a lovely Mediterranean climate with mild to hot weather all year round, peaking at a high of 29C (84F) in July and August. The winters are mild and wet with a high of 12C (54F) in January and February, the coldest months.
Flights to Capri, Italy
Being such a small island Capri does not have its own airport, though self catering accommodation in Capri is easy to reach by boat from the mainland. Catch a flight to Naples with many different airlines, including EasyJet, then it’s a pleasant 40 minute boat ride to the island. You can also get a boat from Sorrento, Ischia or Forio.
