The traditional market town has some attractive Spanish architecture and several historic sites. Attractions include the 10th century castle remains and the Hermitage of Our Lady of the Remedies on the Hill of the Virgin. Both of these important historic buildings have superb panoramic views of the surrounding area. Another well-known feature in the town is the green iron bridge (puente verde) that crosses the Guadalhorce River. The old bridge has become a recreational area where families can picnic on riverside and enjoy the outdoors.
Just a short drive away is the Guadalhorce Golf Club, which has fairways set in spectacular surroundings. The clubhouse also has tennis courts, a swimming pool and a sauna.
Cartama is famous in Andalucia and Spain for its religious festivals and lively carnivals. La Virgen de los Remedios festival is the main festival of the year and takes place in April to celebrate the patron saint of the town. Other festivals include the Verdiales festival, a music festival in May, which celebrates traditional music and dance; El Sexmo fair in September, and Fiesta de Los Reyes in January.
Places to go on holiday in Cartama, Spain
Malaga is only a 15-minute drive away from Cartama accommodation and is well worth a visit. The city has a splendid cathedral and an excellent gallery showcasing the work of Picasso. The city also has vibrant nightlife for those wanting to party the night away.
The stunning sandy beaches of the Costa de Sol are easily accessible and offer water sports such as windsurfing, snorkeling, sailing and jet skiing, or you can simply spend the day soaking up the sun before heading back to your Cartama villa.
If you are looking for entertainment for the kids on your Cartama holiday then Tivoli World near Benalmadena is the place to go. It’s the biggest theme park in the area and offers various rides and concerts and has a variety of restaurants and bards. Sea Life aquarium is also in Benalmadena. The Aquapark at Palacio de Congresos is a water park with over 30 rides and is perfect for a day of family fun in the summer!

Cartama has a wonderful warm climate with very mild winters. Temperatures in summer hover in the 20°Cs, while winter temperatures dip to 7°C. November and December are the wettest months in Cartama.
