Carvoeiro, or Praia do Carvoeiro, Portugal is nested on the rocky coastline of the Algarve. The village of Carvoeiro centres around a wide bay beach, which used to serve as the fishermen’s port. The regions administrative centre, Lagoa, is an interesting little town, and there are all the creature comforts and shops you need. Silves is a beautiful town near Lagoa. It is a great place to relax and watch the world go by, but the main attraction is Silves Castle. It has survived centuries of attacks and earthquakes, and remains largely intact, and certainly impressive.

Things to do on a Carvoeiro, Portugal holiday

There are many small cove beaches along this coastline. From any Carvoeiro villa the beaches of Carvoeiro Praia, Albandeira, Marinha, Benagil, Carvalho, Paraiso, Ferragudo and the surfers’ beach at Pintadinho are easily accessible. These are all small sandy beaches dotted along the rugged coast of Carvoeiro, Algarve, and there are often large caves tunnelling into the cliffs which dominate the area.

From Carvoiero or Benagil beaches, fishing boats take parties to explore the Algarve coastline, often taking visitors to see the magnificent Algar Seco, a huge cave, which can also be reached by foot from Carvoeiro village. These boats, or slightly larger vessels departing from Portimao, also take trips into the ocean to enjoy some invigorating deep sea fishing. Marlin, swordfish, tuna bass, giant conger and many type of shark can be caught from these trips, and a holiday villa in Carvoeiro may be that opportunity to catch that trophy fish!

There are also magnificent golf facilities in the area. Carvoeiro has a 36 hole golf course on its outskirts, which is open to the public, and there are a range of other courses dotted around Lagoa.

Tourism in Carvoeiro has benefited hugely from the weather. Summers on the Algarve are hot and dry, with average temperatures in the summer months above 30°C, and winters are very pleasant, with daily temperatures remaining above 15°C.
