Situated in the “heel” of Italy, Casarano is a quiet town set inland, but only 10km away from the nearest coastline. If you are wondering what sort of accommodation you should opt for, then a holiday rental villa in Casarano is by far the best choice. Fully equipped with all the mod-cons that you would come to expect, and many more besides, you will feel instantly at home from the moment that you walk through the door. In fact, you may never wish to leave!
If you want to do more than relax whilst on holidays in Casarano, then there are a number of recreational activities that you can choose from. The immediate area offers itself up to cycling (you should be able to hire a bicycle or two locally), hiking and running; whilst over at the coast, sea and sand based activities rule. A rental car is recommended in order to get around with more speed and convenience than waiting for public transport, although buses and taxis are plentiful.
In order to find out more about this area of Italy and the people that live here, it is important to try and get out and see some of the places of local interest. A day trip to Lecce is highly recommended, and it is sometimes commented on as being the Florence of the south, with its Mediterranean Baroque style buildings. As well as this, a trip should be taken to the south, where the countryside and views are spectacular, and small tucked away villages await your discovery.
Like much of Italy, the Lecce Province experiences a predominantly Mediterranean climate. This is typified by warm summers and mild winters, although rainfall is a little heavier during the winter months in this part of Italy. A holiday in Casarano is probably best taken during the summer months, which are between May and September. The weather during this time is almost always over 25 degrees Celsius, and during the hottest months of July and August can reach 30 degrees. The average temperature between the months of December and February are around 12 degrees.
Located on the heel of Italy, so to speak, Casarano is quite some distance from the major cities of Rome and Naples. The closest airport is at Brindisi (BDS). This is not a major international airport, but does take flights in from London Stansted (STN) via Ryanair. Major airlines such as British Airways fly into Naples (NAP) from London Gatwick (LGW), however, this is nearly 450km away. Whichever option you choose, it is best to arrange the use of a hire car not only to get you from the airport to your self catering accommodation in Casarano, but to also give you independent transportation to see this region of Italy.
