As with many towns and villages in this part of Spain, Castell de Ferro is characterized by its narrow, winding streets and whitewashed buildings. The town square is the main focal point, with three of its sides dotted with shops, cafes and bars. There are also a number of restaurants to be found here, catering for a wide range of tastes. Nightlife is enjoyable without being too energetic, with the Bajamar disco pub the place to go for late-night action.

To the fourth side of the square is a pebble beach, and further beaches can be reached within just a few minutes’ walk. The coastline is dotted with small beaches, hidden coves and soaring cliffs, and is one of the most tranquil places on the Spanish coast. The waters here and clean and warm, making swimming a viable option throughout almost all of the year.

A number of activities can be arranged at the harbour, including aqua diving. You can also hire a sailing boat and head out onto the Mediterranean to enjoy far-reaching views of the rocky Costa Tropical.

Just a ten minute walk from Castell de Ferro is the small village of Gualchos. The short journey is rewarded when you reach the village, as it has its own mountain spring, which is believed to produce some of the freshest and cleanest water in the whole of Spain.

Thanks to its eye-catching combination of mountains and sea, the Costa Tropical region of Spain has options to suit everyone. Big city lovers should head to Almunecar (38km), which has an abundance of tourist attractions, whilst more relaxing surroundings can be enjoyed by heading north to the villages of the Lecrin Valley, such as Otivar (43km) and Lujar (13km).
