The most visually impressive monument you can visit from a self catering Catania villa is the huge, dominant Ursino Castle, which used to stand on the coastline until a volcanic eruption actually extended the coastline further into the sea! The Baroque 9th Century Cathedral is also well worth further investigation from any Catania accommodation.

There are some fantastically long, sandy beaches just a short walk from the very centre of the town, perfect for anyone wishing to relax in the sun with the sand between their toes. There is always plenty of space on the white sand beaches of Catania, despite the amazing climate, stunning scenery and modern water sports centres which can be found along this stretch of coast.

The Simeto Estuary which lies to the south of Catania has been declared an area of outstanding natural beauty, offering fantastic views over the volcanic landscape of Mount Etna to the west. Throughout Catania are a host of fantastic restaurants, cafes and eateries. Catania is among Italy’s hottest places. During the summer months, temperatures of 40?C are not uncommon, and although this makes beach holiday in the area remarkably enjoyable, if you would like to explore from a Catania villa, late spring or early autumn are top times to visit, still being hot, but not unbearably so. Even in the grips of winter, you are very unlikely to experience temperatures under 15?C from Catania accommodation.
