The region offers a nice choice of bars and restaurants serving some delicious local dishes. This area of Sri Lanka has many fantastic places to visit including Kandy, which is one of the most scenic cities in the country. Here holidaymakers can see many historic, religious sites such as the Dalada Maligawa, which is a Buddhist temple. The last royal palace built in Sri Lanka is here in Kandy too and is now home to the National Museum.
The Royal Botanical Garden at Peradeniya is well worth a visit and is the largest botanical garden on the island. The region features many more historically important places of worship and meditation centres. Visitors can also take day trips to the World Heritage sites of Dambulla Rock Temple and Sigiriya Rock Fortress.

The temperatures in this part of Sri Lanka are fairly consistent throughout the year with an average high of 31 degrees centigrade in March and April. The average high for most of the year though is around 28 degrees centigrade. The temperature can dip in January and February to 18 degrees centigrade on average. The wettest time of the year is generally October and November when there can be between 260 and 300mm of rainfall per month.

Colombo International Airport (CMB) is located 22 miles north of Sri Lanka’s capital city, Colombo. Sri Lankan Airlines operate flights to here from various international airports including Beijing-Capital (PEK), Frankfurt (FRA), London-Heathrow (LHW), Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG), Rome-Fiumicino (FCO) and Tokyo-Narita (NRT) amongst others. There are car rental companies based in Colombo.
