A tunnel, at the end of a pedestrian-only shopping area leads to the town's main beach called the Praia do Penico, but there are other fine beaches within easy reach.

To the east of the town centre is Praia dos Pescadores (Fishermen's Beach) about half a kilometre away. Praia da Oura about 3km, Praia da Falésia 10km and Balaia and Olhos de Água are closer to Albufeira .West of Albufeira are other beaches located amongst the rocks and coves, such as the Praia da Galé.

Theme parks and water parks (Zoomarine and Aqualand) are only a 15 minute drive.

Algarve Shopping (130 shops, cafés, ten-pin bowling and cinemas) is 15 minutes' away.

Albufeira has two golf courses: one with 9 holes (Balaia), and one with 18 holes (Salgados) is 15 minutes' drive away; the courses at Vilamoura are 20 minutes' away.
