Enjoying the Aegean Sea beaches is very popular here and there are numerous little resort towns and villages in which to do it, as well as a number of Blue Flag rated beaches too. Sani Resort is one of the more famous locales. This bustling resort town features many restaurants and a variety of entertainment for visitors who like to spend lively evenings out from their Chalkidiki accommodation.
Places to visit on holiday in Chalkidiki, Greece
For many visitors to Chalkidiki, the beaches and relaxation are the order of the day! If you prefer to combine beaches and sightseeing this is a great place to do it though. The main town, and capital of Chalkidiki, is Polygros. Polygros Archaeological Museum is a good place to visit to find out about the ancient history this region has experienced.
Mount Athos is another interesting though difficult place to visit. This is a Holy Mountain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site but there are restrictions on who can and cannot enter. There are also many ancient sites within reach of self catering accommodation in Chalkidiki. Ancient cities that haven’t yet been fully excavated are abundant, though Olynthus has much to see and is open to the public for tours, and Palaiochori has a number of sites too. A little further away is the city of Thessaloniki, the second most important city in the country after Athens.

Temperatures remain mild throughout the year, though July and August are the hottest months when average high temperatures are in the low 30’s C (high 80’s F). From May to September the temperatures are especially great for enjoying the beaches.

You can get to your accommodation in Chalkidiki by catching a flight to Thessaloniki, to the north of the region. This major city has an international airport to which many international airlines fly.
