The seaside is the main draw for many visitors to Clohars-Carnoet, and can be reached via a short walk from the centre of the commune. This part of the Brittany coast is a mix of secluded beaches, rocky inlets and unspoilt scenery, and many a lazy afternoon can be spent in a reclined position enjoying the views, or perched on a ledge enjoying a spot of fishing.
In the centre of Clohars-Carnoet there are is selection of basic shops to help stock up supplies, but those in seek of bars, cafes and larger supermarkets will need to take a short drive in the car. The use of a car is recommended to help explore this rich and varied region to its fullest, as public transport in the area is somewhat limited, and it would be a shame to confine yourself to such a small area.
Several other small communities lies next to Clohars-Carnoet, and can be walked to within minutes from the main village centre. These include Doelan – where you will find an attractive harbour area, and Saint-Thamec – where a number of enjoyable walking trails begin and end.

Quimper, the oldest city in Brittany, is 55km from Clohars-Carnoet, and can be reached in around 45 minutes by car. The ancient settlement is known for its pottery industry, cider production and fantastic restaurants, and an enjoyable day or two can easily be spent soaking in the medieval charm on offer. Slightly closer to Clohars-Carnoet is Pont-Aven (16km), an artist’s haven which is also the nearest ferry port. Many more day trip options can be had in the surrounding Finistere department, and the main challenge is finding the time to find them all in!

International airports in this part of France are something of a rarity, so the best option for many international visitors is often to get a connecting flight from Paris Orly (ORY) to Quimper – Cornouaille Airport (UIP). Those coming from Great Britain may opt to take the ferry instead, with the nearest port being found at Pont-Aven.
